Second of all, it was done by a gay man so the females actually had defining characteristics and not just plot devices for the men. Alexis has an amazing way of intentionally or unintentionally misunderstanding the intentions or comments of others, because she's pretty and grew up rich. it's really well done.
(dont respond if you havent watched S 4-6. idk why but they really make the characters unlikeable for like 3 seasons) |

For me the first four or five episodes are unbearable because the characters are just too unlikeable, but I thought it turned around a lot more quickly than most seem to think. The mom is always insufferable, I understand and knock the show only for her.
There are legitimately great moments on the show that xo should absolutely eat up. The dad's speech at dinner with the rich people at the end of S2 (S1?) is great. David and Alexis are both really funny, as is Ted. The hotel girl's speech at the end of the show to David re: how bad New York and its people are for him is a real stunner in this entertainment climate.
I don't agree that Alexis is some groundbreaking archetype but I agree that she is really good and her arc is original compared to everything else on TV. |
