wife suggesting we move "down south". wut do?

Date: January 19th, 2022 1:04 AM Author: spectacular coiffed persian background: most of the people around us are very much covid traumatized. so immaterial of official declarations, their brains have been thoroughly cooked. as such, many of the parents are gunshy about play dates, going to the parks, etc. long story short: the schools, while open, are not even close to the real school experience and parents who used to be close to us are now worried about covid and keeping their kids sheltered. my dotter is 7. this shit is terrible for little kids. my wife is concerned (and rightly so) that if they are doing this for what is a cold/flu then imagine what else is coming down the pike at some point in the future. the template is already in place. she doesn't want to subject our dotter to this shit again let alone let our son, who is a toddler, have to deal with this shit in the future.
she mentioned it today and we talked and basically the parameters were "warmer" and "not prone to lockdown kinda stuff".
my off hand guess is FL and TX. herein lies the problem: TX is a UBE state and FL is not. i do not have 5 years of service to just waive in on motion. while i have not much interest in lawyering, a man has to do what he has to do.
i love it here and so does she, but if shit is never going to get back to "normal" here, then we can't put our kids through that bullshit.
any suggestions, feedback, etc., are welcome.

Had you bought a house in Charleston a year ago, you'd have seen 10-20 percent increase with the mass exodus that's well under way and doesn't seem to be slowing down.
Try going to a place that isn't hot right now, but will be probably go nuts soon. My guess would be Savannah, Jacksonville, or Myrtle Beach. Also, Gulf coast places like Pensacola or Mobile.

I think it's a bit of a fool's errand to speculate on the next boomtown though. Prices went up with demand. People and jobs moved. The table is set for a while unless you really want to roll the dice. The paradigm shifted but I think the move is to get out of NYC and make it work and be a lot happier. These crazy places aren't getting any more sane. Ted is built for a community of nice people who will treat him good. |
