Being a hopeless alcoholic who gets sober, however, is 1000x better than just being a hopeless alcoholic, so you're completely right that us hopeless alcoholics are prejudiced in favor of sobriety.

here's how it works. person goes to jail or significantly compromises their personal/professional life getting divorced fired or whatever then it leads to hospitalization (the 72 hours), then discharge. and now on to rehab, 99% of which are tax evasion schemes just like Medicaid vendors.
next up is AA/NA where you have a bunch of other low IQ miscreants/scumbag clique class who exchange "war stories" about addiction. reality is that they're circle jerking each other off and perpetuating addiction by putting the said substance on a pedestal.
then you have the "redemptive" phase -- the individual, once an addict has now "seen the light" tries to make amends with the law, the family, or civil society they're adjacent to. what has been gained from all this? well, drugs are bad m'kay? like really bad. it's so bad that it's all i ever think about, compartmentalizing it and neglecting every other aspect of life for the rest of their lives. well, i'm gonna go ahead and do it again. ok, now return to the first sentence of this TLDR. |
