my, my, my..
"I have learned that multiple law school deans and assistant deans have dealt with the Board when trying to mediate online disputes involving their school's students"
"who makes up the XO community? what motivates folks to spend time and effort on the various discussions? how is the site governed? how are disputes resolved? how much money does it take in?"
"Should law school deans be in the business of trying to shut XO down? Should professors encourage Bar Admissions C&F committees to ask "are you now, or have you ever been . . . " questions?"

I think of MoreDoughHi as the board's resident jew. Used to think that way of Homer J, but he's not around much anymore.
You're the resident Russia troll/war nerd.

unprestigious clerkship and what does "associated with Cravath" mean?

Assistant Professor David A. Hoffman teaches contracts, business associations, and law and economics. Professor Hoffman earned his JD in 2001 from Harvard Law School.
Following law school, Professor Hoffman served as a law clerk for Senior District Judge Norma L. Shapiro of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He was then associated with Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, in New York City, where he specialized in complex commercial and securities litigation.

Might as well sticky it.
When does his "report" come out?
Also: hasn't he just ruined his investigation by announcing it? Not very empirical.

yes, it sounds like a great idea to prevent people from becoming lawyers on the basis that they have said offensive things. this is an imperfect solution though, because everyone who didn't want to become a lawyer could offend people without penalty. a more complete solution is to criminalize the vocalization of beliefs that offend anyone. this would probably require a constitutional amendment to repeal the free speech thing, but i'm sure it would be worth it since none of us would ever have to fear taking offense at anything, or at least not without the speaker being thrown in a gulag, which in any event would provide a smirking satisfaction adequate to overcome the offense

yes. some of it is obviously shtick, but i think a lot of the race-bashing, gay-bashing, and woman-bashing is sincere.
but that's more of a condemnation of the people posting it than of xo.

then you're even more dangerous and should probably be executed on the spot, or if suitable guards can be found (preferably deaf and illiterate so as not to be infected by your sinful thoughts), tortured beforehand. when the founders wrote about the freedom of speech, they cannot have meant speech that offends me, and the only thing that offends me more than unpopular hypotheses is the data that backs them up
and i hope you won't try to tell me that i don't have a right not to be offended; in an ideal regime, i could turn you in to the thought police for a notion like that

Hi! I'm the filter function! You can use me to search for thread titles that already exist so that you don't clutter XO with redundant material. Alternatively, searching at least the front page with Ctrl + F can quickly find related threads if you don't want to wait for the filter. Thanks!

and what a hideous clutter the additional two millimeters of thread title imposes.
do you also police for improper use of the reply function, those who respond to old threads, and any post that isn't absolutely current in its reference to a prominent event?
by posting and bumping the thred you merely extend the time it appears on the first page, of course; so rather than being a genuine concern about "clutter" this would have to all about your pointing out that you are the authority on all topics that have been broached with a thread. something to be quite proud of.

Okay, I'm confused about the guy with the hardhat.
He looks like he's gay (the leather type of guy.)
Is this supposed to represent "straight-bashing"? Or is it merely a fashion statement?
I haven't actually read the article, does it say who this guy is?
