The only downside (which is big) is energy storage. But that is starting to be solved via massive battery scale up.
Manufacturers would have happily kept ICE going with some hedges on hybrid, hydrogen, etc. to meet future gov't regulation. But then Tesla showed that batteries can be produced at scale, so everyone has to follow or lose market share. |
