Also the Rockies form a large natural separator between the two provinces that is hard to bridge. Alberta might be able to link up with northern BC and commandeer the highway through Prince George to Prince Rupert and make that their port I suppose
Also BC is filled with various native groups and they wield outsized power compared with all other native groups in Canada and the US. They do extremely well drinking from the federal government's teat and won't be interested in a white-boy prairie revolution at all |

1) you can't have an version of dutch disease if your currency is federal and your just a province. Dutch disease requires the currency to be inflated and therefore other industries (e.g. manufacturing) to be globally uncompetitive. That's obviously not the case with the CAD.
2. Alberta does plenty more than oil. It has strong agriculture, gas (yes that's different), even manufacturing. What do you think they did when oil was $30?
3. Alberta is not a net recipient. Simple common sense would tell you that. If Ont and QC are also receivers, which province is a payer? Lol. What your seeing is the feds taxing them and then giving some of it back and pretending to be generous.
Just as an example of the impact of the Feds: power prices in AB are $100+ right now because of the carbon tax. They used to get over half their power from coal but all those plants shutdown thanks to the Fed's and Notley. That coal could be burning for $30 right now. The average Albertan is the one suffering.
