35 and probably going to kill myself soon - need career/life advice bros

- no savings, 30k debt at basically zero interest - 150k for now - legitimately shit web developer that has just scraped by on prepping for easy interview questions are companies far below fagman for five years - <>foreveralone<>
It feels like the fucking walls are closing in and if my father weren't alive (who it looks like will now need assisted living) there's a good chance I would've already killedself. I don't know if I just double down on being a developer and hope I can learn enough shit to not have to perpetually worry about my career path or just give up. I'm so fucking tired of this shit.
No idea what else I would do, but I'm completely open to suggestions either for buckling down on my current path or taking a different one.
Already pretty much given up on kids since I have no long-term stability or alternate choices of employment. I just want to not be alone at this point. I would prefer not to kill myself but the endless cycle of being stressed -> uncertainty -> shit at career -> getting even more stressed/shit because I'm just staring at a screen with thoughts racing is not something I can handle much longer. |

Either get much better at coding/CS/tech, etc., or figure out what you want to transition to in the event that the wheels come off (which they may never do, you never know). This decision should probably be guided primarily by what you are naturally good at / where you would have the least catching up to do, and secondarily by what you enjoy within whatever broad field the first criteria leads you to. You also have plenty of non-white collar options, if you choose to look at them.
Also, pay off that debt and put some savings away. At 150k those things should both be possible for you, and it should ease your mind some to know that you will have a little bit of a cushion with some savings so you can transition to something else if you have to.
None of these things are even close to insurmountable, you just need to make a plan. Anxiety will only grow until you figure out a plan to address things that bother you. Once you start working through the plan's steps, though, you will feel better. Control what you can, don't worry about what you can't. |
