At the time North Korea was just overcoming famine and Bush had not pulled out of the light water reactor agreement. It was actually kinda nuts because busloads of South Korean workers were being transported up up to Pyongyang to build that shit. Meanwhile I was visiting my friends at Camp Red Cloud, which has since been decommissioned but was at that time the closest US installation to the DMZ. It was decomissioned precisely in order to remove people like my friends out of range of North Korean artillery, which we were told existed in absurd quantities. This was always THE main threat before North Korea went nuclear. They had artillery out the ass hidden everywhere in mountains. Old AF but still, just massive massive amounts of it. And of course they had ammo stockpiles to go with it, because the only way they could conceivably invade the South was to completely pulverize Seoul and ita surrounding environs with conventional weapons.
No one remembers this anymore because they went nuclear a long time ago, but holy fucking shit at anyone thinking they know how much ammo NK has or how much they can produce. We didn't know those figures even when we had eyes inside North Korea, and we stopped paying attention after North Korea went nuclear. Who the fuck are these xo wizards with inside info? |
