JFC I find it amazing the way that reptiles just mindlessly accept anything that they hear on Fox News. A simple google search could have told you that every single EV manufacturer warranties their batteries for 8 years/100k miles (most have even more extensive warranties). And full batter failures are very rare regardless of whether the car is under warranty. It is true that EV batteries tend to lose range over time.

But the idea that it is common for EV batteries to fail and need to be replaced is utter nonsense. You're far more likely to need to replace the engine or transmission on your ICE vehicle.

it seems like a lot of people feel burned. they didn't realize how much hassle and expense was involved. the whole EV thing might blow up and pass into history as a 'fad' that wasn't ready for primetime.

a lot like 'solar panels' in the 70s and 80s. millions of people ran out and installed 'solar' (Jimmy Carter even famously placed solar panels on the WH roof), but the technology was really primitive and people regretted buying them. 40 years later, though, they are making a comeback as the efficiency finally improves to a point where they are viable.

same will likely happen w/ EVs. they will be a niche thing for a while, then re-emerge when they make a battery that lasts through winter. or maybe not. maybe it's never going to be viable.

Generally agree. I looked solar recently as a DIY option, looking at cheap and used panels and inverters, cash only, no subsidies. From an off-grid standpoint, it can work. Save money versus grid energy? Nope, not yet.

Avis stuck me with an EV the last time I went to California. It needed a recharge when I was over there near Burbank. First I tried to see if I could charge at a Tesla charger. I could not because the Tesla chargers were proprietary. Then, I had to find another option. There was a municipal charger in the same lot. So I went over there. Figured it out. Downloaded an app, uploaded a credit card, stuck in the charger and was told it would take 11 hours for a charge. Then I started scrolling through the EV's OBSCENE nav system (I don't like screens in my cars at all). Found some menu that directed me to the EVGo station outside the Cambria Hotel at the 101/Las Virgenes Road. Guys Calabasas is like 30 minutes away from Burbank. And this is urban southern California. You would think there would be chargers around. There are none. It's completely stupid and you'd be an idiot to buy an EV for any other purpose than to drive to and from a place that's relatively close to your home.

These things may have a purpose, but they are no replacement for the ICE-powered American car. They will never work or be preferred in a place like Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, or even California. They are junk.

I had one as a rental (BMW i4) and absolutely loved it. The office had a charging station so while I was there I just hooked it up and it charged. Unlike other rentals I didn't have to fuel it up before returning it. Even though it wasn't the M50 version it was very fast. If I could rent that every single time I would.

JFC. "I'm too stupid to know how to use the Internet to find a fast charger, therefore EV's are trash." No, actually you are just a fat, stupid goy who is too dumb to use the Internet. Because there are dozens of fast chargers in/near Burbank. For example:

https://www.plugshare.com/location/186197

It is true that EV's are TTT if you can't charge at home. But don't try to argue that EV's are bad when the actual problem is that you are dumb.

Do what? Use the Internet? I didn't realize that opening a web browser was that hard to do.

And there is zero reason to ever look for an EV charger unless you are on a road trip. Normally you charge at home. You never have to do anything to fuel your vehicle other than plug it into the wall. I don't understand why reptiles think it is so horrifying to never need to go to a gas station again.

yes having to google "place to charge this piece of shit that hertz gave me in area i don't live in" while driving is a pain in the ass.

and yes 'reptiles' are rightfully skeptical of cars that require expensive upgrades to their home that will probably be obsolete in a few years and will still require them to "get gas" because the battery life will drop to like 50 miles after 3 years or so, similar to the way iphones do.

Umm... Okay... Because it's not like anyone ever needs to use the Internet to find a gas station in an unfamiliar city. I don't understand why that's such a bid deal.

And JFC why do reptiles believe this nonsense about EV battery degradation? Tesla will literally replace your battery for free if range drops below 70% within 8 years of buying the car, but they get almost zero claims. It is true that EV's will lose a bit of range over time, but saying that it will only get 50 miles of range after 3 years is idiotic hyperbole. For modern EV's, the chances of needing to replace the engine or transmission on an ICE car is much greater than the chances of needing to replace an EV battery.

And you don't really need to install an EV charger at your home unless you have a long commute. It is true that EV charging on a standard 110V outlet is fucking slow, but it will still restore at least 40-50 miles of range if you leave it plugged in overnight. But even if you do install a level 2 charger, it's usually on the order of $1,000. I chuckle at the reptiles who will waste several grand on scratch resistant paint and extended warranties and all the other stupid goy shit they sell you are the car dealer but act like paying $1,000 for a home EV charger is some outrageous expense.

no one uses the internet to find a gas station you zoomer kike dipshit. they're just everywhere. and yes literally every battery powered device that anyone has ever used has gone to shit before the device would have otherwise been unusable. i'm sure electric cars are different since it's a much bigger battery powering a much larger device.

and fuck warranties. no one buys new cars any more because used cars are actually reliable now and there's an efficient and proven market for them so the only way GC can sell more fucking new cars is to forcememe a new yet to be proven on a long term basis tech onto everyone and larp it as 'eco friendly' even though it clearly isn't.

tldr - go fuck yourself, kike

Yeah, EV's are trash that will never last more than 50k miles before the battery goes to shit:

https://insideevs.com/news/699413/highest-mileage-tesla-model-s-3-batteries-14-motors/

To be fair, he has replaced the battery four times. But show me an ICE car with anywhere close to 1.2 million miles on the odometer. Show me an ICE car with 300k miles, for that matter.

And if you literally just drive around until you see a gas station in an unfamiliar neighborhood/city, then do whatever makes you happy. Personally I like to use Google Maps so I don't waste time and gas driving around aimlessly. But it's amusing to see reptiles absolutely lose their over a vastly superior technology just because they associate it with "libs."

i don't see how it's "vastly superior technology". i guess it makes more money for Elon Musk when you have to buy a brand new car every few years and your old one has no resale value because it needs a new battery that costs more than the car is worth and likewise you can't even save $ buying a preowned EV for that same reason. don't even have to go into the fact that they are loaded to the gills with pointless tech that will either break or go obsolete and again shorten the lifespan of your car.

The whole point of EVs is to make owning cars unaffordable for the middle class.

Are you just a fucking moron? One of the reasons it is a vastly superior technology is because EV's last far longer than ICE cars. Did you read the link I just posted about the Tesla with 1.2 million miles on the odometer? Elon Musk built a car that you can literally drive for 1.2 million miles and you are trying to tell me it is conspiracy to make cars unaffordable because they constantly have to be replaced. Okay. And I don't know why I bother to argue with total idiots, but if your range drops below 70% with less than 150k miles on your odometer, Tesla replaces the battery for free. So you're simply a fucking idiot who knows nothing about EV's.

This is possible. But cars in the USA are now filled with bloatware that nobody wants or needs. Every new car sold is required to have a screen for the backup camera. But most cars also have these completely bloated and worthless infotainment systems as well, add-ins, apple car play, etc. All of that shit is a lot. Base models are like $15k less than the premium model even on your standard sedans.

Everyone here is saying ICE cars are better, but there's no vehicle that has the insane advantages (0-60 in 2.6 seconds, 4 wheel turning, tons of storage space, the most advanced self-driving tech, steel body that does much better than any other car in an accident, etc.).

seems like almost all the extreme ev hate is from people that just hate annoying environmentalists. im not even sure if it's an good choice for environment considering the impact making and eventually disposing of the battery and the infrastructure we have to build to supports evs.

evs have better performance than all but the the sportiest ices. if you're in an urban area and have a garage you'll spend way less time keeping your car full of power with an EV. the incentives make it a no brainer for most people. they are cheaper to fuel and maintain.

outside of people that legitimately need a lot of range or are in an area not suitible for an ev, it's the best choice. better performance, saves you time and money.

The idea that manufacturing/disposing of batteries is worse for the environment than burning gas is anti-EV flame. Not that there isn't some environmental costs, but manufacturing and burning gasoline is much worse. It is true that EV's actually have slightly greater particulate emissions than hybrids simply because modern catalytic converters are so efficient that more particulate pollution comes from the tires than the exhaust. And EV's chew up tires more quickly because they are heavier. So if you are a reptile who likes to troll enviromentalists, you can buy an EV and think about all the tire particulates you are sending into the air, I guess. (I remember reading a study that said that Republicans are less likely to buy a light bulb if it is labeled as "energy efficient." That study seems relevant to the discussion about EV's.)

i believe this is most likely the case. but anything environmental is so politicized it's impossible to really know. either way, i didn't get it for the environmental impact, but because it's by and far away the best option if you live in a shitlib state that gives you a bunch of incentives and if you actually have a place to park it and charge.

i *never* stop to charge except on very long roadtrips. and even then it's about an ordinary pace for stretching and peeing.

Brother, an EV is basically a glorified golf cart. It’s super simple to put together, requires something like 1/5 the labor in manufacturing plants, and productivity is only going up. I have a Tesla and I'd probably never go back.

Drove a rental recently and you forget how annoying it is paying for and getting gas. People saying "oh the road trips" are missing the point."

I got to a Tesla supercharger like 10x a year - usually on really long road trips. It probably takes 10 minuts longer than a nomral gas station so it is a pain in the ass.

But the rest of the year i never get gas. I used to go once a week. That's a net of 42 less trips to the gas station.

Same here. I really like mine. I’ve had it for >3 years and have had it in for service once. One other time I had an issue with a camera and they sent mobile service to my office and it was nbd. I’ve charged it at a Supercharger ~6 times ever. I charge at home and most hotels when I’ve taken rare weekend trips have had a free charger.

It’s fast, very low-maintenance, and generally works well. It’s very Reddit-like to get Yosemite Sam mad about them because LIBS! and I’m very far from being a lib.

Joe Rogan said it pretty well when he was talking about his Tesla versus his muscles cars, and basically said while his muscle cars were fun to drive, when you get in the Tesla you realize how fucking stupid they are.

The Tesla is just a motor turning a wheel instantly responding to you hitting the gas. The ICE is mini explosions of gas inside your car turning thousands of gears and converting the explosions to energy in real time. In his words, ICE are fun to drive but they are just really fucking stupid when you compare them to a Tesla.

Should have mentioned above but I’m so used to it now: I paid for FSD and it really helps with any highway driving (I commute on a highway and it’s 180 and worth every penny). I miss it when in my wife’s car or a rental - much more stressful to drive.

I only have free/partial FSD with Tesla (called cruise control) and that mode alone is 180 on highways. I'm still waiting for Tesla doomsayers to explain which car does this better than Tesla

the tesla doomsayers are mostly anti-Musk and are basing their opinions of tesla on that. and what's nuts is that until recently they were mostly musk fanboys who lauded tesla for saving the environment and having the most amazing technology.

the autostreer cruise control is insane. ive had instances of phantom braking or whatever. but 99.9% of the time it's flawless. maybe some other companies do it better, im not taking every car on a 100 mile test to see for myself. but teslas is really fucking good.

Same. Once you’ve driven an EV, ICEs feel so sluggish and inconvenient in comparison.

I just sold my last ICE vehicle and am now fully EV. EVs basically have every advantage, especially for high income earners. I have solar panels on my upstate property (where I spend 90% of my time and do 100% of my charging) and the opportunity cost of selling electricity back to the grid and paying for gas vs charging an electric car is ludicrous. I think I calculated that for each mile I got in an ICE, the same $ value of energy consumed input into my EVs got me almost 10 miles. Plus the steering, acceleration, handling, etc. is an order of magnitude better on EVs.

sold my 15 year old hybrid with 300k miles for a new ev last year. all the retards that were clutching their pearls about hybrids are doing the same thing with evs. everything has been fine for me and i take a lot of road trips. if you're in a shitlib state the incentives make it a no brainer, and even in are country the federal incentives alone usually make it worthwhile. idk why anyone would not at least get a PHEV for a commuter just for the incentives alone.

If you have space and have a sports car or F-150 around on an as-needed basis then it's 100% chill and nbd imho. For me, the thought of a Panel Upgrade or getting a Plug put into my Wall made me go "fuck this, I'm not an Engineer."

In reality you can't be married and do the "I drive electric she drives gas" or vice-versa because it will confuse and dismay bird brains

Nobody really knows. Most mainstream publications are saying it is because the market of early adopters is saturated and the rest of the market is nervous about making the switch. But I think the culture war is a bigger culprit. Since Biden tried to incentivize a transition to EV's, half the country thinks that they must be bad because anything that a Democrat advocates must be bad. Fox News seems to publish some type of silly anti-EV propaganda every single day. Meanwhile Elon Musk started posting right wing tweets, so now libs don't want to buy from the largest EV manufacturer any more. The result is that EV adoption has slowed significantly.

BTW, sales are not "cratering" by any reasonable measure. EV sales increased dramatically in 2023. They just didn't increase as much as the auto industry expected, so the result was excess inventory and falling prices.

I don't buy the political angle and if anything the fact that Tesla is now the Republican car brand should increase appeal from when EVs were for shitlibs only. Shitlibs still have a ton of EVs to choose from while Cons will happily buy a Tesla. Now there's an EV for everyone. I suspect that the overwhelming majority of Cybertruck owners are conservatives. It is more Hummer than the Hummer EV.

I agree with your point about cratering. I'll also note that in the US EVs are basically for the performance and high end market. I'm getting an EV, but it costs $120k. I'm a car guy but have never paid 6 figures for a car before. It is sort of nuts.

The problem was trying to make low performance practical cars. People buy tesla bc the men love the acceleration and women like the look, while both like the image of something practical and not flashy. All the new EVs are ugly and have normal ice acceleration unless you pay double for the performance model. People who really care about practicality just get a hybrid and those who want performance get a tesla. Nobody wants a slow ugly electric hornet or whatever slow shit bmw and Mercedes made.
