Why do Mormons hate Trump so much?

It's an interesting question, honestly. I grew up in Utah and have a large number of Mormon friends/family. While the majority of them voted for (and will vote for) Trump, Trump doesn't have anywhere near the Mormon support that Bush and Romney did. While Trump won Utah easily, soft support among Mormons may have cost him Arizona and Nevada in 2020. And many of my Mormon friends who voted for Trump don't particularly like him, but voted for him anyway because they liked the judges he appoints and/or they viewed him as the lesser of two evils.
My best guess is that college educated whites have moved strongly toward the Dems since the rise of Trump and Mormons are much more likely to be college educated than other religious conservatives. If you look at the voting results, Biden actually won some precincts in Utah County (Provo/BYU), which is normally like 90% Republican. But Trump absolutely dominated rural Utah, as he dominated most rural areas nationwide. Even Carbon County, traditionally a rare Democratic stronghold in Utah, backed Trump by a huge margin. So I think the most likely explanation is that Mormons are more likely to be college educated and live in urban areas than most religious conservatives, and those two demographics having been moving away from the Republicans.
