Are Army generals this revered? The movie acts like he's American Royalty.
This movie is bizarre. I always thought generals were like the equivalent of being a equity partner in biglaw.
Aka no one cares

https://ndupress.ndu.edu/Publications/Article/1325984/are-there-too-many-general-officers-for-todays-military/
There are approximately 900 Active-duty general/flag officers (GO/FOs) today of 1.3 million troops. This is a ratio of 1 GO/FO for every 1,400 troops. During World War II, an admittedly different era, there were more than 2,000 GO/FOs for a little more than 12 million Active troops (1:6,000).
The U.S. Army has 315 General Officers. Generals (O-7 to O-10) comprise 0.06% of the Army. There is 1 General for every 1600 Soldiers.

Every time I see this title mentioned I keep thinking they made a movie based on this book written by a woman, and I have to remind myself that it's actually about an Ameirican general (i.e. boring):
"When it first appeared in 1987, the title story of this collection of stories by Nguyen Huy Thiep caused a sensation in Vietnam. Not since the Communist revolution had readers found as stark and compelling a view of their world as The General Retires offered them. Written in spare, succinct prose, it captures the despair of an old general who, after many years of devoted service to his country, is alienated by the emptiness of the society into which he retires and ultimately flees. Nguyen probes similar themes in the stories that follow, from Cun, the moving tale of a crippled beggar, to A Drop of Blood, a dark history of a family set against decades of war and revolution. With eight powerfully written stories--all available in English for the first time--and including an introduction by Greg Lockhart that traces the varied traditions of Vietnamese literature to the present day, this collection offers unprecedented insight into a society trying to overcome and understand years of pain and civil strife."

i mean women being gross sluts with daddy issues in the military is pretty typical
the movie also had this cheesy lib message at the end that was basically "believe all women"
but what really did it for me was the notion that this could compose some kind of dramatic issue in real life. no one would give two farts about a general's daughter in real life

lol the trailer has general stars flying across the screen in later scene changes. Madeleine Stowe also gazes awestruck at a 2 star rank insignia at 1:05
