The only quibble, and it’s very minor because, frankly it’s not that much of an advantage over say S30v, but benchmade needs more magnacut. I strongly dislike S90v. Why I bought one with it I have no idea. M4 is really nice, I got the bladehq 940 in M4 when it was available, but you have to touch up the edge as it micro corrodes or something. Spyderco's base steel in most models is now s45vn but they make variants of their US models in pretty much any steel you want. So I guess somewhat they can point to better materials for their price hikes. Benchmade? Same exact shit but now 30% more expensive.
That said, the steel nerd bullshit is mostly a marketing scam. Every couple years the current super steel becomes ubiquitous and something else comes along to replace it. Couple years ago it was m390/20cv/204p Now it's BIGDICKMAGNACUT bc it can be heat treated to motherfucking 63 HRC!
In reality, hardly anyone is using their $500 knife enough to notice the difference. |

Date: April 26th, 2024 12:38 PM Author: naked aromatic goal in life S30v, s35v, s45v seem to be all basically the same. I don’t see much advantage to one over another. Magnacut seems like a small step up mainly in corrosion resistance but I have not seen a spec of rust on S30v or S35v.
S90v and s110v I don’t understand the appeal at all. Maybe if you never want to sharpen and all you use the knife for is cutting paper?
M4 I like. Only thing I have noticed is the edge gets visibly darker as in some form of oxidation no longer a mirror finish. But whatever. It still cuts. |
