also it doesn't seem controversial at all. there is not requirement for universal mail in ballots that i'm aware of. so of course texas could restrict it. |

Date: April 22nd, 2024 8:24 PM Author: orange wonderful telephone The argument is that Texas' rule allowing no-excuse absentee voting only for voters over 65 violates the 26th Amendment ("The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age."), by "abridging" the right to vote of those 18-65 "on account of [their] age."
What's funny is that this is the type of shit that the Warren Court used to actually buy into, and that many state supreme courts still do. |
