It's a role where you're reasonably likely to be killed, and where situations will occasionally arise where you'll have to go semi-voluntarily into situations where it's exceptionally likely you'll be killed. Keeping the "semi-voluntarily" as close to involuntary as possible is (from the perspective of political leadership) hugely important, and can't be done using the normal incentives of good pay, etc. |
