Date: April 29th, 2024 4:45 PM Author: Frozen Spectacular Pit Codepig I can just speculate anecdotally based on my circle of irl friends as to why the Remake trilogy's combined sales for 3 games will probably barely equal the sales of the original game (OG) when all is said and done.
One of my buddies (Brayden) is a die-hard PS1 fan who simply sees no reason to move onto new consoles. That's just who he is.
Another is always going off about how "life is fundamentally meaningless," and sees no point in playing video games at this point in his life. I told him he'd make a great JRPG villain haha, but he was always more of a Sega Saturn guy (big into strategy RPGs moreso than story-driven JRPGs).
Several others got seduced by the Xbox and everything that goes along with that. It's like they forgot JRPGs existed and just started playing FPSs one day. The PS3 really burned a lot of bridges when you think about it.
All of my Engineer buddies switched to PC gaming at one point for some reason.
A lot of PS1 players imo were Turncoats who turned away from N64 for its lack of games. But these folks are Nintendo fanboys at heart, and many have a Switch but no current gen console.
The above covers like 80 people which is anecdotal although statistically it's nothing to sneeze at. This group of people runs the gamut socioeconomically and they have every high school Clique covered. I was cool with everyone in HS and had friends from every Clique. So it's not a stratified sample along the lones of one cohort. But yes, with that said, it is anecdotal, and I'm interested in your anecdotes itt btw. |

But yeah, for some reason the opiate epidemic hit a lot of my buddies hard, and combined with fentanyl and other illicit drugs, brought several to their demise. One of the reasons I didn't want to get into this is because this co-varies to a large extent based on console choice, with those who got an Xbox 360 having by far the highest mortality rate, Nintendo the lowest, and PlayStation - though each death is tragic - being nowhere near Xbox.

Threnagyn Here I am. I'm 35, and ff7 was my favorite game growing up. I've completely abandoned ff7 remake series. Why? Because I feel strongly that they botched the remake. All the additional content about finding cats or some club managed by kids with their side quests was all terrible. Sepiroth on the original game was totally indifferent to avalanche in the first third of the game. In the new one he's like some cringe anime trope that interacts with them and addresses cloud with some cringe anime feathers and wings and some stupid kingdom hearts crap. Just ruined the tone and everything. Won't even bother playing rebirth. I never finished remake and will never touch it again |
