Which book is this?

What do you like about Wodehouse? Anyone you’d compare him to?

Plum was his nickname. Similar…. Dunno. Smart like Christie. Funny, kind hearted like Herriot.

Any of the Bertie series, but especially the first two or three. I never got into the animal or Blandings ones as much, but that’s just me.

Read up on his personal life. He got screwed over by the, uh, media based on his time being held captive by the Nazis in the war. Cancel Culture is not new.

I always thought the cancellation was especially bullshit given the fact that Roderick Spode's Black Shorts is one of the funnier send-ups of fascist types

Herriot was 18389329832983298

I hadn’t thought of Spode in years. Gussie Finknottle’s drunken speech on newts to the grammar school is excellent. I think Spode features in that story, too.

Waugh is great but his most famous book (Brideshead Revisited) is kinda meh. Would recommend anyone new start with Scoop.

"kinda meh" is generous for Brideshead. Hated that book. I enjoyed Scoop and Sword of Honor.

overall quality of brideshead is debatable (i love the charles and sebastian faggotry but understand why people wouldn't), but the prologue that almost begins "Here love had died between me and the army" is an unmitigated 180.

Love Wodehouse, super fun and chill

Haven’t read Waugh but need to.

Side note, for a while I got Evelyn Waugh and Edith Wharton (who is great) mixed up
