German soldiers outperformed Allied soldiers under all conditions by a 50% margin
They were almost superhuman
In a technical age though that can’t overcome a 3:1 to 10:1 production advantage in all categories

Trevor N. Dupuy, a noted American military analyst, US Army Colonel, and author of numerous books and articles, studied the comparative performance of the soldiers of World War II. On average, he concluded, 100 German soldiers were the equivalent of 120 American, British or French soldiers, or 200 Soviet soldiers. “On a man for man basis,” Dupuy wrote, “German ground soldiers consistently inflicted casualties at about a 50 percent higher rate than they incurred from the opposing British and American troops under all circumstances [emphasis in original]. This was true when they were attacking and when they were defending, when they had a local numerical superiority and when, as was usually the case, they were outnumbered, when they had air superiority and when they did not, when they won and when they lost.” Many other noted historians agreed with this assessment:

many historians are saying this!
Is there some sort of averaging at play?
Does it account for surrendering? Mass numbers of Germans surrendered to the allies, seems this needs to be a part of analyzing fighting effectiveness.

Hitler lost any chance of beating the USSR long-term when Stalin had the foresight, at the start of the invasion, to move his armaments factories to safety in the Urals. As a result, by the time the battle of Stalingrad started, Russia was making several times more tanks a month than Germany was.
The war would have lasted longer if Hitler had concentrated on taking Moscow or if he had not gotten distracted in Yugoslavia. But the end result would have been the same.
Soviet production plus Lend Lease vastly outproduced Germany industry. In the face of that, the best soldiers in the world can only do so much.

If conquering Kiev or Odessa were an existential need for Russia, then yeah, it could probably do it eventually at extremely high cost.
But neither of those are, in fact, existential needs for Russia. Wanting to destroy someone else's country doesn't mean that you NEED to destroy their country.
That being the case, Russia will correctly decide, after taking the Donbas and maybe Kharkiv, that there are no further objectives that are worth the enormous cost.
