One guys reaction was kind of funny because one of the first things he said was “colon cancer??? Didnt that black panther actor die from colon cancer recently” I said I don’t know but most people are able to treat it and don’t die so I’m optimistic

don't be afraid to use this. A lot of people hear this kind of stuff and think 'oh well they're just being nice" or "oh but I don't want to be a burden." They absolutely mean it and are willing to help and part of being a friend is accepting a good faith offer of help as well.
