But what can you tell someone? Loyola is 3rd best in town, there are lots of jobs, lots of firms in LA have loyola grads working there, that seems to be good enough for them... plus omg, look at that median salary on loyola's website for private law grads in large firms, 22% of 60% omg, sure thing...

We don't even get interviews during OCI because firms pre-screen all the resumes. LLS graduates like 300+ students a year so eventually over the years there will be a number of people at the big firms in LA if 30/year join their ranks. But the reality is that 90% of us do not get these positions. There's a lot of smart people here gunning like crazy and staying in the library for hours and hours every day. It's not easy to get top 10%. Tell them to spend 150k on something better.
Tier 2s are law schools for people not meant to be lawyers. |

1.) Your first year, how many people were ultra competitive, or at least believed they would be in the top 5-10%, top 20% or whatever. How do you tell people 90% of the people won't be 10% no matter how many of them want it.
2.) Was the competition fierce? Or will it be laid back, and easy, friends of mine think that LLS will be easy since the people there are not T14, so they can easily sail to the top. And yet they base this on some inner belief they are smart, even though their TTT LSAT/GPA/UGrad school lends nothing to this belief.
3.) How long does it take the average LLS student to realize the illusion is broken?
4.) How many enter LLS already believing it's a TTT and they will have a hard time getting a job?
5.) What do people at LLS think of those at UCLA/USC?
6.) What od they think about those at LaVerne/SouthWestern/Whatever schools?
7.) Are people at LLS delusional during 1L? Keep hope alive, we'll all be top 10%?

HYS aside, even at one of the top NYC schools (CLS or NYU), everyone with a pulse is going to get $160k. Sure, some people are competitive, but the fact is you don't have to be.
People need to understand that if they go to a lower-ranked school they could very well end up fighting for their lives with people who have the exact same stats and desperation as they do. It's ugly.

- At least half the class or more thinks they will be in the top of the class. And some of them try so hard. It's heartbreaking when they fail. And almost all of them do.

Competition is fierce. There's a lot of gunners here and lots of people with chips of their shoulders with something to prove. LLS is nobody's first choice so everybody thinks they're too good for the school. Lots of people talk about transferring out but of course almost all are stuck in this hell.
3.) How long does it take the average LLS student to realize the illusion is broken?
After they get no interviews during OCI. Those in the top 30% after 1st year hope and hope during the summer that they'll get a job. After they realize only the top 10% students are walking around in suits all day does the anger and bitterness start to sink in. All that separates the two groups is one or maybe two grades but the difference in opportunity is staggering.
4.) How many enter LLS already believing it's a TTT and they will have a hard time getting a job?
I don't know anybody who thought this. None of my friends and I ever talked about how TTT the school is. We're just stupid to this stuff first year but then OCI hits and now we all realize we've been duped.
5.) What do people at LLS think of those at UCLA/USC?
All of us were rejected from there so we're mostly envious of the opportunites they get that we don't.
6.) What od they think about those at LaVerne/SouthWestern/Whatever schools?
We look down on them just like the UCLA/USC students look down on us. Toilet or not, there's still a pecking order to the so-cal law schools.

8.) Why do you not talk with your friends at LLS about it being a TTT? I went to a TTTTTTTT-undergrad, so I have some experience, but do people actually believe LLS isn't a ttt? If you said "LLS is a TTT" would other say "no it's a good school, we're going to be lawyers, it doesn't mean we aren't smart" the same bullshit people in TTT-undergrads say? I mean seriously, in undergrad so many people want to have stupid jobs that it's ok that the school sucks, but in LLS, everyone wants 1 or 2 jobs, ones that pay, how can you avoid being bitter and discussing it?
9.) Are 1L's excited? Like you say there are gunners, but whatever, are people genuinely excited to be there? I don't know how this is at other school.
10.) Is the carrier services office completely TTT, or do they just lie to you all day? a.) Do they have pamphlets? b.) Useless "forums" to talk about "other" jobs in law, i.e. TTT low paying shit jobs like public defender? c.) Are they even staffed/open on a daily basis? d.) Does anyone even use them? e.) When do people hear about pre-screening? When they hear crickets during OCI?
11.) Do you ever get angry at the administration and say something? Does anyone say something?
12.) Are those who hate LLS, like yourself, shunned if they speak up?
13.) At what point (maybe 3L so you don't know) do people accept their TTT status and accept shitty employment? Before graduation?
14.) Do people end up taking non-law jobs during summers, like McDonalds or working at the Mall like High-schoolers? Since unpaid internship sucks anyways if it's some shitty one that leads nowhere?
15.) How many people in 1L work part time places at LLS? Are you allowed to work 1L? Second Part: Sames question for 2L?
16.) 20%+ don't even use their law degree and go into "business/industry" at LLS does this mean McJobs or some asst. manager at TTT retail store, or what the hell is this at LLS?
17.) How often do you drink/consider suicide/consider quitting?
18.) How are the professors? Do they realize it's TTT and let on, or they just lie to you?
19.) How are people in the top 10%? Do they still look/act inferior, does everyone hate them?
20.) Who goes to Southwestern, Non-Trads or just morons who have no concept of what life is after graduating? (Not an LLS question, but it should cheer you up to know there are much shittier schools in the LA area, and LLS is clearly still 3rd best.)
21.) Do students ever sabotage each other? Any dirty stories?
22.) How is the quality of life, are people happy or just bitter all the time?
23.) Do you live near campus, where do LLS students live?
24.) Do people whine about debt a lot?
25.) Why is LLS so cheap when giving financial aid?, it seems really TTT to give such low scholarships to candidates well above their medians, I know from first/2nd/3rd hand experience LLS is a TTT which looks like a scam by the fact they give virtually no money in grants.
26.) How hard is it to score well at LLS? I'm sure lots of LLS 1L's or 0L's are reading this thinking "fuck this, I can get into the top 10%, i'm smart", Tell these people, is the grading procedure fucking arbitrary law school bullshit, like at most schools, where some retard can get an A and some smart person gets a shitty B- or whatever grading system LLS has.
27.) How is the curve, it is harsh, it sounds like it's shitty and causes lots of people to get pushed out of the Top 10% for 1 slip up, i.e. the curve pushes people towards Top 10% then makes fucking brutal splits based on 1-2 grades down into the top 50% What the hell is this? Some attempt to show the avg. gpa os LLS students is decent but arbitrary top %'s?
28.) How is the staff? Are they approachable? Are they personable? Do they know people by name? Are they assholes who don't care? Are they all local minorities who don't know shit about Law School and have 2 hours of training to teach you how to make it big, but secretly resent even your TTT status since they are TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT local slum dwellers?
29.) How are the URM's at LLS? Does LLS even admit URM's for the purpose of seeming diverse or it's just a money trap to take the highest candidates to avoid slipping 20 spaces like USD.
and finally,
30.) How many LLS students read this, do you know? do you care? You seem pretty smart, you should be hired some place, atleast you give a fuck and aren't a retard. It seems lots of people are too stupid to realize they are even stupid, I think you get points, you seem intelligent, and LLS seems to be an arbitrary TTT which pushes many people into shitty positions because of basically no reason. |
