it's fortunate that there isn't much nostalgia for that shit, because it was terrible. i include the entire whoomp family of songs, including 'whoot! there it is" and whoomp! there it went and so on. every single one was PUTRID. and yet, it was one of the biggest hits of the entire decade.

my middle school friends and I would get bored and phone up the overnight DJ at the local top-40 station and complain about how shitty the music was.

he would stay on the phone with us when we called at like 2AM.

I remember him actually explaining the station's format to me, which he referred to as 'high energy dance music,' an FM radio catch-all that I guess included a great diversity of shitty music (rap/techno/swedish pop like Rednex and Ace of Bass etc.)
