These guys are getting violent so it could be a dangerous mission. A couple Pahlavi supporters killed an Iranian activist in Canada recently

Yes, humor or sarcasm tends to go over their heads too. One thing that’s helped me understand the Pahlavi cult is that most of them have absolutely no political or historical insight. Like children, They just reflexively support anything seen as going against the Islamic republic, because their hatred of the government is the only unifying principle. Anything that could potentially harm the Iranian government becomes good, even if it kills thousands of Iranian people and leaves the country in ruins. So they cheer when some replaceable irgc general is killed but get butthurt when you mention tragedies of war like kids killed in minab. Really sick movement

cr as an outsider that's my read on them too. it's best to ignore them and/or treat them like the unserious people they are, they get some kind of high when you actually attempt to engage them. many were inculcated to hate the islamic republic from an early age but actually know very little, haven't spent much time in iran, lack nuance, etc

It used to be a harmless fringe movement that was mostly nostalgic boomers who remembered the good old days under the shah and fantasized about his return. Then with the popularization of persian satellite TV networks like Iran International, it became more mainstream and gained momentum. these channels push pro-pahlavi propaganda 24/7. Pahlavi used to be anti-war and said he would never support american intervention, but I think in his old age, he's become more bitter and fearful that he'll never get to return to Iran, so it's pushed him to warmongering extremism. The fact that Pahlavi's top advisor Saeed Ghasseminejad works for FDD (a pro israeli interest lobby group like AIPAC) tells you what direction his movement has gone in the last 10 years and why he now cheers for this war.

Many in the Iranian diaspora, like pahlavi has fallen into this ideology due to constant exposure to pahlavi propaganda on social media and became convinced "intervention" is the only answer. This movement has been able to feed on the desperation that people feel about the iranian government's oppression and the SHIT economy in iran. It's also become increasingly popular in iran, so I wouldn't say it's something that's limited to wealthy iranian immigrants in la or something (although that la persian crowd LOVES this pahlavi slop ideology).

tyft.

i thought that the iranian diaspora supportive of pahlavi might be like taiwan, i.e. mostly the elites the revolution was revolting against. but since iranian was an islamic revolution revolution i guess there are less well off groups that also fled. i went to a zoroastrianism wedding recently and they were all impressed i knew what that is! but i don't know a lot about the consequences of the iranian revolution on the diaspora, why there are so many persians in la, why some hate being called iranian, etc. it's something id like to learn more about.
