Their theory of the case didn't make any sense. They set out to prove she was a horrible person and her entire family and coworkers said she was great. They said her suicide attempt wasn't fake and she is paralyzed and the wounds looked bad. Her shrinks seemed completely retarded and like they were doing the bare minimum and lacked relevant experience. She was obviously overmedicated and had a bad reaction to the medicine. And the state never offered any motive. You have a lady who snapped, reached out for help, got bad care, has no motive, and no one thought she was a shitty person or a manipulator.
Then I heard the defense case which I thought tilted back towards the prosecution. The big hurdles for Lindsay are number one she didn't tell anyone about the hallucinations before the murders. She said she only heard them one time ever, on that day. And also she had been weaned off most of the medication by the time of the murders and everyone said she seemed to be doing better and was great to be around.
Never seen a trial where both sides made me root for the other side. It's a tough one but it really comes down to which experts the jury trusts. I felt like the defense experts were a little too in the tank for the defendant. They got a little cute and just seemed like they had formed their opinions before looking at the evidence.
This is one where we just have to trust the jury. I think they will do the right thing. They're either going to conclude she's a selfish monster that can never be let out or they believe that she went psychotic, sought help, got some really bad care, drugs made her worse, and she was trying desperately to keep it together and keep up appearances.
I still lean not guilty by reason of insanity but if the jury returns a unanimous conviction I will trust their judgment. |

I thought the defense witnesses were fishy. The chaplain was some rich lady who worked for decades at Fidelity before adopting third world kids and deciding to work for nearly free as a hospital chaplain. A true bleeding heart who said she loves Lindsay.
Honestly a huge portion of this case and why she might skate is that everybody in her life liked her and thought very highly of her. She's the nicest child murderer ever. |

The defense expert on psychosis said that a psychotic person can truly believe something that's not real. The defense argument is that she held beliefs that were at odds with reality. If she was mentally impaired how could she know what she was doing was wrong? But yes even if the state proves she did know it was a wrong, Mass statute says that she can be acquitted of criminal responsibility if she could not conform her actions to the law. Whether or not she's guilty her docs were fucking insane.
Alia Goodhart the Indian woman with the shaved head was pure trash. Jennifer Tufts her main shrink was a pompous ass. She had almost no experience but thought she knew everything. She screwed up the most. Nurse Jollatta was the best one. Seemed professional but she refuted a lot of the testimony of the other docs. Agreed with the defense on a lot of key issues.
I think a really big issue at the heart of this case is that none of these mandated reporters ever escalated Lindsay to the next more serious level of treatment because while she admitted to thinking about suicide all the time she said she never had a plan. She was terrified of the state taking her kids or of getting committed so she hid a lot of this from the docs, and the docs never intuited that something was seriously wrong her mentally.
This case is really tough and a lot of the burn the witch types out there haven't followed the trial and don't know the facts. |
