People die from the dumbest shit imaginable, like tripping, hitting their head the wrong way, or getting clipped by something completely stupid.
Then someone else survives an earthquake, a 100-foot fall, a horrific car crash, or multiple gunshots.
Or people jump off bridges that should've killed them instantly... and somehow live.
So what the fuck actually decides when you die?

You want an honest answer?
The tally of your sins against your good deeds. It’s constantly being weighed and the greater the disparity the more you are at risk of slipping this mortal coil.

Ya we have become very abstracted and disconnected from death
For humans before the modern era, it was something that was always on their mind. Their awareness of death informed their lives. We've completely lost that and it has led us to a really bad place

People did not neurotically fear death in the way that they do today, but it was definitely an omnipresent consideration that informed every part of life
Christianity is a thing because of death. Because it promised eternal life in a world in which common people lived difficult lives in which they could die at any time. Unlike today, people really believed in it, and really believed that they could obtain eternal life via Christianity
Similar death-transcendence myths informed different peoples and cultures. Valhalla, Confucian ancestor worship, etc. It was a big deal, maybe the biggest deal for human culture. All gone today, stomped out by (((reason))) and materialism

this reminds me of that story a few years ago where some bitch at a cocktail party slipped and fell on her wine glass and it slit her throat and she bled out in front of everyone. just like that.
hs friend of mine died at 18 because he fell and hit his head snowboarding.
other high school friend of mine died in college from meningitis. one day you think you've got the flu the next day you're gone.
