The wgwag thing is historical vestige of an era when some mentally ill megaposters (aznazn/JBD) used to spam the board with threads about wgwag to the point that normal posting was literally impossible. I think people started to give azns some shit about wgwag in connection with that, which spawned some new mentally ill posters like nyuug and UVT, who then generate their own backlash.
