I read that. He also said that if you tip more the driver doesn't get paid more, it just covers more of the hourly wage instead of giving them more money.
I experimented with tipping less just to see what would happen. They would automatically give me the worst service on their roster. I got guys who would drive in circles for an hour, miss picking up half the order. Almost certainly spit in the food.
I think they really want you to tip big so they can pay the driver out of your tip and not pay the wage so they profit more. "Please pay our cost of doing business, or this service will be pure shit!"

> He also said that if you tip more the driver doesn't get paid more, it just covers more of the hourly wage instead of giving them more money.
That's not the case for the vast majority of Doordashers. For most of us, there is no hourly wage. Maybe things are fucky in the relatively few locales where they do have some sort of minimum wage for drivers.
Being a reasonably decent tipper will in fact get you the best service. We are independent contractors. We can see the amount we're making on each offer prior to accepting it. I reject as many shit offers as I can while still maintaining "Platinum" status (i.e. no more than 30%).
> I think they really want you to tip big so they can pay the driver out of your tip and not pay the wage so they profit more.
Well, yeah. The vast majority of what I make comes from tips, not Doordash pay.
TBH it shouldn't really be called a "tip" at all. It's really more of a bid.

i never use the delivery services and pick up myself because
1. i don't want uber/doordash to get any of my money
2. the people working for those services are subjected to horrible working conditions and i don't want to participate in their subjugation
3. i want to have full control over the speed at which my food gets to my house
4. i have no problem waiting for a few minutes either in my car, outside, or inside a restaurant if my order isn't ready
regarding (4) why are you such a softbatch pussy?

1.) go to the bar
2.) have a couple beers intending to order takeout while you're there
3.) get drunk
4.) ?
5.) end up eating at the bar and pissing on your shoes on the way out the door

Hey everybody check out the extrovert over here!
There are places where it’s routinely 20 minutes late, except when it’s not.
Your experience seems more in line with white (or at least non-ESL) restaurants. Try asking an Indian or Chinese restaurant when your food’s ready. They can’t even spell “James” so it’s going to take them a while to find the receipt. They’ll just tell you “5 more minutes” which may be correct, but there’s also a chance that it’s not even started. Meanwhile the entire vestibule is full of smelly 5’5” guys carrying two disgustingly greasy, no-name phones waiting to pick up their orders while they have 2 other orders sitting in their car in the parking lot. It’s not as black and white as you’re making it sound.

demonic is crazy.
my nephew is 19 and in college. he doesn't have classes after 10am on friday so he does doordash for 4-5 hours on friday. my sister refuses to pay for shit beyond his tuition and room & board (trying to teach him not to be a spoiled faggot)
is that not a win-win for both the consumer and him?
the problem are the idiots that want this to be their full-time job. almost none of them accurately factor in vehicle maintenance, gas, 0 benefits, etc.

are you a literal nigger?
i clearly implied that doordashing/rideshare likely only makes sense when it's supplementing your main source of income and/or you're a student. it's an easy way too make a little additional money for a few hours.
maybe good for unemployed people too since you're 1099 and it won't stop your unemployment

What you call a "waste of time" is actually the sort of "slice of life" things that make life worth living.
Having GC slop delivered to you isn't a luxury, it's a market distortion that creates a number of externalities everyone has to deal with (including the tax payer who fronts the money for the social safety net that covers the 1099 "Dashers" who make less than minimum wage and get zero benefits.)
"Hurray! My Big Arch just arrived! Oh, what a 5 star experience!"

it's especially demonic how it's all framed around "freedom" and "choice." i remember some radio program about uber when it first came out lauding it for cutting through the red tape and giving drivers and consumers FREEDOM. back then i was a wide eyed libertarian who believed it, so i cant completely hate on the useful idiots who still do.
externalizing the costs onto society is also huge. this has existed for some time and is the reason why gc chains like walmart can outcompete others. what's crazy is that getting a w2 job there is so much better than appslaving that now the former gc giants are feeling the pinch.
its a race to the bottom and yet there are still retards blaming pablo for it. when they get t-boned by an uninsured illegal rushing to drop off a mcarch on time, they never take accountability for all the mcarches they ordered from pablo.

It was only "revolutionary and game changing" because everything was insanely subsidized by VC cash for years.
"then the hat wearing MBAs came in and gutted it stem to stern to extract maximum value"
Look, I dislike hat wearers as much as the next xo poa but Uber ran massive losses for years and only posted their first profitable quarter in 2023.
You're a fucking idiot.

also just ignored laws that cabs had to obey which put them on an unequal playing field. all with the blessing of governments that had people who directly benefited.
and before some says YEAH BUT THE CAB REGULATIONS WERE BAD, that's not the point. the point is that only some players in the market had to comply, which was extremely expensive. combine that with endless VC cash, which is illegal unfair nusiness practice.
its a fucking scam. also these companies are all goys. i hate the tiny hat people too but some people here blame them cor literally everything, if there is no such thing as a scammy goy.

Yes - the app defenders present a false choice: the old taxi medallion system OR app monopolies with 1099 serfs. Lots of middle ground between the two.
I also agree that these apps are among a few of the GC scams that are really not that Jewish. Wasn't Door Dash started by a bunch of asian dudes?
Largely, I think the issue comes down to no limiting principles. If technology can do something, then it is treated as though it must do something. And any pushback is "leftist" or "communist." But these businesses needed to behave as rackets to even get off the ground. Try starting a money lending business with that approach and see how it works out.

crrrrr
the apps did a lot of good things, it wasnt purely about price. summoning an uber is way more convenient than hailing a cab, especiallly in places where cabs are uncommon. but 1099 serfdom versus medallions is a false dichotomy.
not money lending specifically, but it did happen in finance as well with crypto and crypto exchanges. not as disastrous as other apps, but a lot not people lost money with ftx and other crypto related shit. acknowleding that doesn't mean the only options are sam bankman-fried unregulated exchanges where your money can disappear and SEC regulations where you need to spend millions on legal fees everytime a CEO takes a shit.

all depends on where you live.
doordash and ubereats arrives almost TOO fast where i live. like wtf -- does the driver live in the parking lot of the restaurant?
