No I've never been to Cuba but I grew up next to Mexico and I've gone into Mexico quite a few times and I'm familiar with Latin America and I speak some Spanish..
now of course I've been taught throughout my life that Cuba is a bad place and that the Cubans are deprived and poor and victims of their own socialist system..
but lately my thoughts are going the other way. Since I retired a few years ago I've had the time to think about a lot of stuff.
And it's very interesting to watch the street life in Havana Cuba that you can see on tourist videos.. it's true that Cubans don't have a lot of the consumer bling that we have here in America.. they walk around instead of driving around.. but they're not skinny and they're not deprived.. they all look very healthy actually.. but they don't have a lot of fancy food, doing some research their basic diet is rice and beans with a little bit of cassava root on the side.. that's for two meals a day.. for breakfast I get a piece of bread with some butter or some jam, and with each meal they get some coffee..
That's probably a pretty healthy diet.. and their family connection and so forth their family social network is far richer than we have here in America.
And really this goes for a lot of other countries that I previously thought you know these so called poor countries, they're very deprived and that we are so much better ..
but really you know I'm starting to come around to the idea that they're actually better than us.. and that we are forced by our culture and mainly by our system of laws and our interlocking system of governments and mandates that come from the government, we are forced to work far harder than people and say India are Pakistan or Cuba or Brazil ..
It seems that what people do in those Nations, and really the majority of the nations in this world, is that they work a while for a company owned by some people in their extended family. They work for a year or whatever and then they quit and the they stand around on the side of the street and talk with friends and relatives. and you can see them standing around on the side of the street everywhere in tourist videos throughout the world.. just tons of people standing around..
you can see a lot of videos of people spending a lot of time at religious festivals and ceremonies in countries like India. There's a big push online especially on Twitter to make fun of India like it's a really bad place ..but those people are enjoying themselves.. they're not working day after day week after week year after year decade after decade paying a mortgage and paying car loans and paying car insurance and paying health insurance.
They live their life and they enjoy it. Yes they do work sometimes but from what I can tell they don't work year after year after year after year. They take long extended breaks from working and they stand around on the street or they sit in cafes and they don't do much at all except talk to their friends and relatives..
What's wrong with the socialist system like Cuba has? I tell you the truth I think their system is better than ours.. the people look healthier and they look happier. Look at the videos of people in big festivals and religious ceremonies in India.. these things are jam-packed thousands of people and these are not brief ceremonies like we have ..you know a lot of people go to mass on Sunday in America but it takes an hour or two ..in India they spend the whole day at these festivals.. well anyway I thought I'd just talk about this ..
really this is something I've been thinking about for years and I've been gathering the evidence for it and I know that no one's interested in it because America is driven by money and there's no money in what I'm talking about..
