my friend used to set up shows at a firehall near us (crofton, MD) and he set a show up with hatebreed headlining in 97 way before they were big. like they weren't even big in the hc scene yet bc they had no releases.
my friend steve, who sings for a band called 86 Mentality, slipped and cracked his head open on the dancefloor during HB. the lights came up as he was tended to, and i thought i overheard a HUGE baltimore skinhead brag about having cheapshotted him. i ran my mouth at the guy and he came at me.
i lived in a city called bowie, and for some reason we had like 30 hardcore kids who would show up heavy to most shows in dc and baltimore (mostly dc). a full ass riot broke out. and i was 18; the guy i ran my mouth at was 26 and fucking jacked. no idea why i said shit. couple of my friends obliterated a few skins tho. anyway, i was cornered against a wall and my friend handed me mace and i shot it all over the place. much of it wound up in jamie's eyes and i think that of boulder.
luckily the cops came because some of those doods were going to their cars to get guns. i had an ex gf from baltimore who was friends with all those guys. she smoothed it over after, but i was told that if i showed up at another show i'd be killed.
you know that band terror? scott, their singer, was in a band called despair at the time. we were friends with them. they played the firehall a few weeks later and i went. their bass player came up to me and said "hey man, those skins are saying they're gonna bury you in the back of this place, you better go"
also, hatebreed was gonna stay at my friends house the night of the above incident but they opted not to when they found out i was with this crowd. they did end up being friends with my friends tho. my buddy paul filled in for them that summer after their drummer abruptly quit the tour. |
