Its a lib trope that blacks have magical negro healing powers, rooted in some earthy spirituality, that permits them to enter the plot, call the white protag "honey", and alleviate their depression or anxiety, and drop some gritty earthy aphoristic wisdom that solves everything
having said that... its fucking true, ime.
I remember once walking down some Boston street on an ordinary day. I was being an ordinary white person, an ordinary sensitive young poster. Which means of course, completely wrecked by depression, anxiety, existential crisis, etc.. but not in any way that differed a bit from every other single day in my life, or the lives of everyone I know.
Fat black probably homeless lady called out from the shadows, "Now why you so sad, honey?! Why yo face so sad? Show me a smile. Sho nuff it all gonna be okay, honey."
IT WAS TRULY WIZARDRY. I smiled immediately. I felt warm. I chuckled a little. I felt human connection. I felt rooted. For a moment, everything was okay.
Black girl magic.
