4 of their 6 studio albums are arguably unskippable nearly perfect albums with legit bangers that made even made Top 10 radio internationally.
The 1st 2 are literal artistic masterpieces that arent even up for debate across all genres.
Dire Straits (1978), Communiqué (1979), Making Movies (1980), Brothers In Arms (1985)
You are FUCKING DONE HERE.

Every modern American woman needs to be forced to listen to “Bodies”
24/7
Bodies
Song by Sex Pistols β§ 1977
Overview
Lyrics
She was a girl from Birmingham
She just had an abortion
She was a case of insanity
Her name was Pauline, she lived in a tree
She was a no-one who killed her baby
She sent her letters from the country
She was an animal
She was a bloody disgrace
Body, I'm not an animal
Body, I'm not an animal
Dragged on a table in a factory
Illegitimate place to be
In a packet in a lavatory
Die little baby screaming
Body, screaming, fucking, bloody mess
Not an animal, it's an abortion
Body I'm not an animal
Mummy, mummy, mummy, I'm an abortion
Throbbing squirm, gurgling bloody mess
I'm not a discharge
I'm not a loss in protein
I'm not a throbbing squirm
Ah! Fuck this and fuck that
Fuck it all the fuck out of the fucking brat
She don't wanna a baby that looks like that
I don't wanna a baby that looks like that
Body, I'm not an animal
Body, an abortion
Body, I'm not an animal
Body, I'm not an animal
An animal
I'm not an animal
I'm not an animal, an animal, an-an-an animal
I'm not a body
I'm not an animal, an animal, an-an-an animal
I'm not an animal
Mummy! Uh!

these are all actually great questions because most are borderline
I never liked Def Leppard much until I saw them live with Motley Crue and both were fantastic, hearing it live makes it bang a lot harder
-----
Def Leppard:
1. Pour Some Sugar On Me
2. Photograph
3. Rock of Ages
4. Foolin
5. Hysteria
6. Bringin On The Heartbreak
there's a drop off, imo. several that are like C+ tier. more subjective cutoff to draw than some of these, I think, but I think they barely miss it.
-
Alice in Chains:
1. Rain When I Die
2. Man In The Box
3. Rooster
4. Nutshell
5. Dirt
6. Down In A Hole
7. Bleed The Freak
8. No Excuses
9. Check My Brain
10. Them Bones
not even close, could also include Would, Dam That River, and probably a few others i'm forgetting
-
GnR:
1. Sweet Child O Mine
2. Paradise City
3. Welcome To The Jungle
4. Live And Let Die
5. Mr. Brownstone
6. Patience
7. November Rain
8. My Michelle
9. Rocket Queen
10. Nightrain
some of these are borderline but I think they get in
-
AC/DC:
1. Back In Black
2. Shoot To Thrill
3. You Shook Me All Night Long
4. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
5. Thunderstruck
6. Highway to Hell
7. Hells Bells
8. Have a Drink On Me
9. Who Made Who
10. Shot Down in Flames
and probably 5 more (Live Wire, Shot In The Dark, Girl's Got Rhythm, Stiff Upper Lip), easy yes

DS took time for me to enjoy, although I don't think it's really yacht rock. Brothers In Arms is good at expressing a vibe most songs can't. On Every Street has some of the coolest guitar work I've ever heard, if you like Stairway then OES is worth a full listen through.
Heavy Fuel may be the song from them you'd most like.
most of their stuff is just good music to chill out to though (Sultans of Swing); Zeppelin is great if I'm doing stuff and not trying to relax.

W contemporary rock
W alternative
I actually absolutely adore several boomer rock bands. I think what they achieved is absolutely mind blowing. What bugs me are the boomers who won't shut up about shit like Creedence and Jimmy Buffet, and if you're Gen X, The Police. Like OK it's fine whatever. But they talk about some of these butt rock bands like it's amazing and when they die no one will ever listen to Fortune Son or Margaritaville ever again.
My second issue with boomer rock fans is that they completely hate on alternative. There was this entire genre that was super popular and everyone in our generation grew up on it and not 1 boomer anywhere in the world has ever heard Come As You Are or Linkin Park - Crawling. It's just the complete disdain for modern shit they have is nauseating. They're missing a whole world of great music and they dump on it constantly because their 1950s brains can't process it.

this is an utterly stupid as fuck take.
one of the most-repeated and taken for granted musical opinions is that the stones have the best 4-album run history in all of music, from beggars banquet to exile. i'd argue it's 5 albums and include goats head soup.
see, you told on yourself here. you don't believe i have listened to a full stones album. that's because you know their radio hits and the songs that wind up in movies and shit like that and you haven't listened to their material yourself. same is true of bowie, which is how we get these mentally retarded ass opinions from you.
part of the problem (and perhaps the entirety of the problem) here is that you have a very narrow view of music and you don't know very much about it, yet pass yourself off as some kind of expert.

what, that he doesn't believe someone has listened to a stones record front to back?
it really is. i have a few friends who always say FUCK THE STONES PAINT IT BLACK IS GOOD BUT OTHERWISE THEY SUCK, and to a man, they are unfamiliar with the stones' output. they just know the stones got really bad in the 80s, kept putting out records (still doing it now for some reason) and are hugely popular, so they have this general feeling that they must suck. they are never familiar with the stones' catalogue, they've just heard all the songs in scorcese movies and never bothered to listen to them.
i love HAtp, but he falls in this category based on the above poast. he isn't familiar enough with the stones' catalogue to judge. i'm certain he knows all their hits, but he hasn;t really listened to them.

i'm far from objective here but I think he has 10-15 truly excellent songs, and about 10 more pretty damn good ones, with about 10 more "good if you're in the right mood" ones. He's a top 5 favorite ever for me, maybe top 3.
in general but inexact order:
1. Only The Good Die Young
2. Uptown Girl
3. Miami 2017
4. It's Still Rock And Roll to Me
5. Piano Man
6. Stiletto
7. You May Be Right
8. The Downeaster Alexa
9. Scenes From an Italian Restaurant
10. The Stranger
11. Captain Jack
12. Big Shot
13. The Entertainer
14. Sleeping With The Television On
15. Everybody Loves You Now
16. She's Always A Woman
17. The Longest Time
18. River of Dreams
19. Vienna
20. A Matter Of Trust
21. My Life
22. She's Got A Way
23. An Innocent Man
24. We Didn't Start The Fire
25. Keeping The Faith
26. Summer, Highland Falls
27. Angry Young Man
28. I've Loved These Days
29. Pressure
30. Don't Ask Me Why
31. Tell Her About It
32. I Go to Extremes
33. Say Goodbye to Hollywood
34. New York State of Mind
35. And So It Goes

No but holy fuck does this bitch have a lot of streams. Really not my thing I'm actually kind of anti pop music in general.
Britney no I'll give her 5 though. Not a deep catalog.
Green Day yes Billy is prolific af. Not my favorite band but he put in the work.
MCR - No. Love them but not enough great songs for me. My biggest issue with them is that compared to the average MCR fan I think The Black Parade is completely overrated as an album. I am the physical embodiment of a Three Cheers guy. I just have no idea why they changed their sound and got so much worse but people love it. I don't get it.
SS - borderline but I struggle with Metal personally as a genre so I recuse myself. I am glad metal fans dig it but the only metal I like is thinly veiled hard rock. Metal is too intense for me.

I love Bowie but he put out a lot of garbage. Like I could pull up a Bowie album from his prime and no one would know 1 song on it. You have to sift through heaps of trash to find the gems.
Green Day was an absolute tune making hit factory that produced banger after banger. I'm not even that much of a Green Day fan. It's a little too poppy for me. But they have two dozen songs everyone in the world recognizes and can name after hearing only the first five seconds of it. Facts. I probably enjoy Bowie more though.
In my personal Bowie catalog I tap out at around 7-8 hits just saying

you don't seem to use consistent criteria. the op talks about "good songs," but here you talk about hits. those are not the same thing.
and yes, you could probably play the average person any song on Low or Station to Station and they wouldn't know it. wtf does that have to do with anything? most people have awful taste in music and just like what's on the radio or clipped in instagram poasts. that same person would instantly recognize a backstreet boys song. same re your point about green day being more recognizable and therefore objectively better than bowie. popularity is not a valid measure of whether music is good. it's one metric, but it isn't all that important imo (because, again, most people have shitty music taste and treat music as something that's on in the background).
bowie put out a lot of absolute shit after let's dance, but his album run from hunky dory to scary monsters (1971-1980) is unparalleled: 10 great albums in a row. the fact that your average retard on the street doesn't know that is irrelevant.

not to pile on bc i know i already said this, but the reason his criteria seem to shift is because this is his actual single criteron: does he like an artist. if he does, he says yes; if not, he says no.
in some cases, he gives justifications for his answer. sometimes popularity/sales seems to carry the day, in others it's irrelevant.
the above is why the thread should be entitled "HAtp tells you (in yes/no format) whether he likes bands/musical artists." however, fewer people would probably engage with that, so he draws us in with the promise of some objective discussion of whether an artist is "good," which is kind of an impossible task to begin with.

No it's not not LOL.
A critic strives to be unbiased. Of course this impossible to do completely, but you conflate that with it simply being "what the person likes."
It's like my food critic analogy above. You're like a guy who likes one cuisine and hates others. You'd give an Olive Garden pasta a Michelin star and elite sushi an F and justify it with "I love pasta and hate fish."

Yeah I'm heavily rock biased.
That being said enjoy literally ANY OTHER mainstream music critic. They love shit like SoLanGe. Yeah good luck with that. I'm pretty sure it's humanly impossible to be completely unbiased about art. The difference is that Pitchfork and the NYT is its heavily biased towards gay liberal nonsense. And they consulted accredited musicologists!
I like Rick Beato but it's too boomercentric for me. He barely acknowledge alt at all. Fuckin bullshit. So yeah pick your poison. I made this thread for free. Enjoy DLA Piper faggot.

No. A 2 hit wonder.
Yes but it's borderline. I felt like their greatest hits double disc could have been one disc. Although it was substantial better than Blur's.
The Verve don't have 2 good songs who are we kidding here?
No but they have about 5

their singer goes SCAP RAP BAP BOP WIDDY WOW and shit and their music is fucking retarded as shit, for starters.
it's lowest common denominator type music for retards from CA.
i know that 95% of these discussions just come down to what the person happens to like, but suggesting RHCP is a good band comes close to being objectively retarded as shit.
edit: under the bridge, however, is a GOATed song. wish they'd done more like that instead of the bizarro clown music bullshit they put out normally.

Flame has officially jumped the shark.
It's physically impossible to "love" the Beach Boys and say they don't have 10 good songs. 10th most played song on Spotify is "Wouldn't it be nice." If you don't like them, fine, but there is no one that "loves" Kokomo or any other Beach Boys songs but thinks the rest of Pet Sounds isn't "good."
I challenge you to list the "good" Beach Boys songs sincs you "love" them.
