The employees seem to make minimum wage or slightly more. There aren’t excessive admin costs yet daycare can run more than $2K per month per child. How?

Daycare is a steal compared to neighborhood babysitters -- some of whom may want $25-$30 per hour. So a 5 hour night out to go to a work event or whatever can cost $150 on top of food and drinks and whatever.

He has 4 kids and they were all raised by a fat dad with no discipline who randomly takes off on solo vacations so of course they are more difficult to watch than normal kids. $30 per hour is a steal.

First youre underestimating the admin costs for reputable safe and clean programs. Staffing like with everyhting is difficilt and if u sont want tatooed freaks or nigs u need to have a stable of nonzomboid womenz.

Second you can in fact get cheap child care and its cheap for a reason. Get a ukro nanny off craigslist. They will rob you blind and neglect your kid. But i have a nanny cam you faggoly exclaim. Geeat! U get to see the video of these bitches low key abusing your kid (low key as in only debatably abuse per the law but terrible treatment by normal white person non slav standards).

25 kids at 2k a month = $600,000 gross

5 full time employees each making $38k = $190,000

Rent of $10k a month = $120,000

Supplies, diapers, food, furniture, toys, furnishings, etc. = $5,000/mo = $60,000

regulatory compliance of $500/mo = $6,000

= $224,000 net before taxes

post taxes (of 38% incl fed and state) = $138,880 for owner or less than $70k each if dual owned

Yes. Owners don't work in their daycares people. Owners pay someone like $60,000 to run the daycare and then they run across town 15 minutes away and open up another one. It's not uncommon for daycare people to have like 10-15 facilities.

It's called the Baumol effect. As an economy grows through increased productivity, an ever-increasing share of national income will be spent on low-productivity sectors (like child care, health care, elder care, etc.).

I just read the wikipedia article on this since I never heard of it and it sounds interesting.

The article seems to suggest/assume without explanation that the effect is inevitable; an economic law, because high-productivity sectors offer naturally higher wages and poach from the low productivity sectors until the wages balance.

This doesn't seem inevitable at all -- people competing for lower productivity roles aren't fluidly transferable to higher productivity sectors. The effect seems entirely attributable to subsidy and culture-wide "lifestyle creep" social-safety-net politics.

I think it's helpful to think less in terms of individual workers (who of course might not be able to personally change careers, depending on their experience, skill and aptitude) and more in terms of generations of workers.

It's hard to imagine any appreciable number of workers born in 2010 accepting pre-industrial revolution wages for, e.g., childcare (say $20/day in 2025 money). Even with no safety net, they'll just commit crimes or whatever. There'd be no point in working for $6000 to $7000 per year. Nobody would do it.

"even with no safety net, they'll just commit crimes or whatever" is not really a serious analysis. If there was no safety net the price of unskilled subsistence work such as watching/feeding a child would normalize at a level where unskilled people either do it for the market wage or it gets done for subsistence

The price of necessities of life obviously just reacts to the price of labor performed by people just skilled enough to survive, which is one reason this effect is observable. If the price of such labor wasn't artificially juiced, costs wouldn't be commensurately inflated

You're not understanding the point. The market wage for low-productivity labor is affected by the market wage for high-productivity labor. That's the Baumol effect. You're postulating that for some unspecified reason there is a permanent category of people who can do only low-productivity labor and this segregation persists across generations, but there's just no reason to think that's true. There's no reason think that if childcare paid 1820s wages in 2025, and had never paid more than 1820s wages, that there would be any appreciable number of people who would still be only able to work childcare, despite having generations to adapt.

I think it's self evident there is, today, an appreciable number of people who are only able to work childcare on their best day

No, that's completely wrong. The people you're talking about could work in a factory making 2x 1820s wages, e.g. (such factory jobs do not of course exist in the U.S. because the Baumol effect is real).

The sense I'm getting is that you're too dumb to have this conversation. You're not able to see everything that changes if you modify one variable.

No, many people with comparatively lavish access to funds today could not and would not work in a factory anywhere -- a condition that is both the cause and effect of their continued survival being subsidized by others. This is self evident to anyone in the lower class which you clearly are not and I'm happy for you.

I really don’t get the xo anti daycare take.

It is fine for kids in rich white/asian areas. The Jamaican and Dominican nannies people get in NYC are awful and leave screens on all day, talk on the phone constantly, etc.

Your kid will be a weirdo/outcast when they start preschool if you don’t socialize them before. Which means not only having a SAHM but paying for stupid classes and shit on top of that. It’s not 1950 or even 1980 anymore. Daycare is totally normal if you are an UMC city dweller.

I guess in poor areas there are some totally shit daycares that are staffed with trashy people and who have prole kids but that’s definitely not the case in Manhattan, Boston, DC, or some other cities I’ve lived in.

It honestly seems like a good business to run because your customer acquisition cost is like 0 if you do a good job.

Like you just need good staff and a clean facility and you'll have a 2 year waitlist for kids here.

Also, it seems like daycare are pretty quick to kick people out. So you can really make your daycare a rich / popular clique and then get even more demand and charge even more $$$.
