Very happy for you and your marriage!
Sorry about the Chick-fil-A backlash thing. It’s Pride month and tensions are higher than ever. I’m queer, but it’s my guilty pleasure. I have slight sensory issues with food and imo their stuff is the most consistent if I’m starving while out and just need something safe to eat.
I wish people gave as much energy to making sustainable change in communities and holding big corporations accountable through actual policy as they do to random working class people online who make the occasional morally gray decision. Not to say that accountability can’t be had, but, like, pick and choose your battles please y’all we’re tired as fuck out here.
Cheers once again to your growing family OP! ♥๏ธ

Lol...
https://www.reddit.com/r/GirlDinnerDiaries/comments/1ts9w3k/my_boyfriends_mom_called_me_oriental/
My boyfriend is white and so is his mother. For some reason they still don’t know my ethnicity, even though I’ve mentioned it many times and corrected them every time. (I’m half Thai and half Sri Lankan.)
His mother has called me Chinese before, and I corrected her. Now she just calls me “Oriental” bc she says she doesn’t wanna “offend me” by calling me Chinese or Japanese ๐I don’t like being called that, and I’ve told my boyfriend many times to speak with her about it. He says he has, but ….. “that’s just the way she is.”We’ve been together for five years, and he’s been talking about getting engaged in the future. But I got so tired of his mother’s behavior that I told him I didn’t want to be part of his family if she was going to keep being racist like this to me. He said I was overreacting, so I “overreacted” by dumping him. Now I’m single, eating aglio e olio pasta and some bread rolls.

"Babe I can't control my Mom's language. She loves you but she's a product of her time."
"Well I don't want to be part of a family that doesn't respect me!"
"You're overreacting babe, you told her you're not Chinese so she used a different word. That shows she's trying!"
"Overreacting?! Well now I'm ending the relationship because of someone else's behavior to prove you wrong!"
Women are 180.

in our "Women Are Wonderful" society it's enormously suppressed/underappreciated just how much more mentally ill women are than men in general
the common view shared among both men and women is that there are vastly more "weird" and "mentally ill" men. everyone just subconsciously accepts this as Fact
in reality, it's the opposite. there is a serious epidemic of mental illness and insanity among women which is covered up by massive amounts of redistribution and preferential treatment in their direction, enabling them to continue their mentally ill, destructive, and anti-social behavior/habits/beliefs with no consequences that would incentivize them to stop or change

Minority owned ๐ค ๐ฎ๐ณ ๐ฎ๐ณ ๐ฎ๐ณ
MY company just told me no to celebrating Pride.
We are a kinda small firm in the big scheme of things. But we are DIVERSE and minority owned. We speak 28 languages. I’m a minority one of few being a white person on the firm calls. (ETA* super fucking weird sentence. I’m really sorry. Leaving for accountability and also just bc. Fucking sorry. Good conversation around it though.) I love it. I’ve always been proud that we are diverse and that we work in government and nonprofit and just….it felt good feeling like I was a part of a firm that had values.

Which one of you did this?
https://old.reddit.com/r/GirlDinnerDiaries/comments/1uamtn7/i_think_i_married_an_incel/
I think I married an incel
When we met I was an escort and he was a client. We fell in love pretty quickly and pretty hard and have been together 14 years. He has made some unsettling comments about women over the years and a lot of it seems rooted in misogyny. He talks down against women who are accomplished and successful. He thinks women should be agreeable. He thinks there’s no such thing as inequality in the workplace, and the world is built for women. He has very strict rules for how women should behave. I think the women in his family reinforce that because they are all like that. I grew up kind of wild with a lot of women and we are the opposite. I think that’s what attracted him to me but it seems like he tries to change me.
He says he’s traditional but also wants to go 50/50 on everything. If we go to a coffee shop or for a slice of pizza, he won’t even pay for my order. It’s not even about him paying for me, it’s just embarrassing and makes it awkward to pay separately. I would rather we take turns paying. I’m pregnant and I recently asked him what he’s going to do when the baby gets here? Are we still going to pay for ourselves and who pays for the baby? How is that going to work?? And just this week he started paying for my coffees.
He teases me a lot. When I told him it hurts my feelings he said he’s negging me so I’ll stay with him. I told him it just makes me feel insecure and want to run into the arms of another man for comfort. I don’t understand why a guy would intentionally want their partner to have low self esteem. He always wants me to dress sexier, look hotter and be more confident but how can I do that when I feel bad about myself.

I was fired for being gay...
[excerpts below]
https://www.reddit.com/r/GirlDinnerDiaries/comments/1v264lq/i_was_fired_for_being_gay/
had just recently started being more openly out at work, but our operations manager and my supervisor both knew and acted supportive of me. I had only hesitated because I wasn't sure how our CEO and our loan officer would react, but after hiring someone who is nonbinary, I wanted to be more open too.
The week prior to my firing, my supervisor and the ops manager pulled me and the NB new employee into a meeting to discuss our loan officer feeling that the individual and I had had an inappropriate conversation where members could hear. The topic of this conversation was *gasp* our significant others. Their wife, who is trans and my girlfriend. Both my supervisor and the ops manager agreed we didn't do anything wrong.
I was having a conversation with another new hire to get to know her better. She ended up going to her supervisor (our loan officer) and reported she was uncomfortable after I disclosed my sexuality to her (funnily enough, she told me she was Pan in the same conversation).
-
In short tried to act "charming" by telling new hire she was lezzing out.

the main issue with modern life is that women were never meant to have this level of 'consciousness' - specifically group consciousness - of themselves *as women*.
they were meant to be second-fiddle participants in male reality. they were not meant to achieve first-order consciousness.
it is impossible to sustain both male/female 1st person consciousness. it is like if your household appliances developed consciousness and started writing diaries about The World According to Your Dishwasher. it just doesn't make sense. the world cannot tolerate subordinate elements becoming first-order actors. it is incoherent and unstable.

My parents were in town this week and I took them to dinner. It was raining when we finished so my dad went out to get the car, and while my mom and I were standing by the door waiting, she told me completely casually, in the tone you'd use to mention a coupon, that she has an account at a credit union in Dayton that my dad has never known about and she's been putting money into it since 1991.
That's thirty-five years. She started it the year my brother was born because my dad had a stretch where he was laid off and got what she called unpredictable about money, and then things got better and she just never closed it, she kept going. She's never taken anything out of it. She wouldn't tell me how much is in there, she just said "enough."
And then she said, "You have one, don't you." Not really as a question. And I said yes, because I do. I've had one for three years and my husband doesn't know about it.
I have never told anybody that. Not my sister, not my best friend, nobody. My mother figured it out standing next to a hostess stand in about four seconds.
Then my dad pulled up and she picked up her purse and said "don't tell your father" in the exact same voice she uses for don't forget the leftovers, and we got in the car and she asked me about my cousin's new baby the whole way back to their hotel.
I want to be clear that I don't think my marriage is in trouble, because I know exactly how this reads. He's a good husband and it isn't about him. I watched my mom be completely financially dependent on someone for forty years and somewhere around 24 I decided I was never going to be in a position where I couldn't walk out of a room, and that's all it's ever been.
But I've been sitting here since we got back thinking about the fact that she was doing the same thing my entire childhood and I never knew, and that she just assumed I was doing it too, and that she was right.
Chicken katsu and a house salad. It was genuinely so good.

Context recap for those who haven't red my previous post: I’m currently packing up and moving out of the house my ex and I bought together, which he kept after our divorce, but where I’ve continued to live (on my own) for two years under the terms of the agreement we reached during the separation. I’m estranged from my toxic family, partly due to the drama he caused, and I’m finally moving in with my new partner.
So, my ex-husband and I are wrapping up the final logistics of me moving out. Everything was going smoothly until he texted me with a classic lead-in: "Hey, sorry to ask, I've been thinking about this for a while... feel free to say no, but do you remember that copy of The Lord of the Rings your parents gave us? Would you mind if I kept it as a sweet little memory of us?"
First of all, my parents didn't "give us" anything. That book belonged to my late grandfather who, as he knows very well, was basically the only family member I truly felt connected to. Since I no longer speak to my parents, that book is the only physical piece of my grandfather’s legacy I managed to keep.
Second of all, this isn't just "a copy of The Lord of the Rings." This is a vintage, numbered, limited edition (1.000 copies) release, printed on India paper, complete with a certificate of authenticity. It’s worth well over a thousand euros. He knows this, becasue we’ve literally discussed its financial value in the past, and (shocker) he’s currently broke.
If he wanted a sentimental keepsake from our marriage, there are a dozen random paperback books scattered around the house that he actually read during our trips or that were presents we gave each other on special occasions. I would have handed any of them over in a heartbeat. But no, he specifically asked for the rare, priceless, sentimental heirloom from my dead grandfather. I’d like to say I’m lost for words, but in fact I have plenty, and they’re all insults.
Naturally, I said no: my grandfather's book is coming with me to my new life, where it belongs. And, of course, he replied in a very smooth-talking way that I was doing the right thing (of course I was) and that, in fact, he was even grateful to me just for considering it (and it was very hard for me not to reply, "And I thank you for having the nerve to try and ask me that; thank you for making it easier for me every single day over the last two years to realise that life is so much better without you").
Cheers to girl dinner, which is actually lunch: potatoes & bacon frittata sandwich and rice.
EDIT: since many of you seem to be rightfully concerned, I was already home with the book when I got the message and I'm not moving from here today. Tomorrow the book will be brought to a safe place. I don't think he's going to steal it but I'm not taking chances with it! Thanks a lot to all of you for the comments and the investment in this story
