Monk was the first show that evokes the golden age of USA "characters welcome" shows IIRC, 8 seasons starting in 2002
It starts off very strong and stays consistently good, so if you like the first episode you'll love it all IMO
It's about an endearingly OCD (which gives him insane powers of observation despite being hopeless in daily life otherwise) police consultant for the SF police who had to give up his badge after breaking down before the series begins because his wife died from a car bomb believed to be targeted towards him - strangely one of the most romantic series ever too because they have a lot of nice dream sequence type flashbacks about their life together, and him struggling to move on in a healthy way while also preserving her memory
