((zurich is stained)) i dumped like $350k into the ETF when BTC was in the 80s and 90s. at one point, i was down about 35% but i've been DCAing since then and putting basically all plan contributions into the BTC ETF, and i took profits from other investments and plowed them into BTC over the last 6 weeks or so. i am now down overall 1.5%.
between the 401k, my roth IRA and actual BTC in coinbase, i have around 9 BTC. this is either going to work out great or i'll lose my ass.
edit: i just looked at all my accounts. i have $813k in BTC.
i also have $185k in the ETH ETF. fuck my ass.

i know hardcore believers in COINS think it's useless to buy the ETFs, but that's my only option within my 401k plan, and the fee is a quarter of a percent, which isn't all that bad (although it's high for what you get, which is absolutely nothing). |

I think it all comes down to whether they can play the rehypothecation shell game with the exchange versions. If not, you're fine. If so, we'll see bad divergence for you
They've kept it up forever in the PM market, so I don't think it's an obvious negative for you |

Date: September 21st, 2026 3:26 PM Author: wangfei ibit and fbtc are spot btc etfs. they dont rehypothecate. your gain/loss will mirror btc/usd exactly minus the 1/4 point. that 0.25 gets you institution grade custody - thats not nothing. blackrock stores its btc in coinbase. fidelity self custodies in proprietary. spread some of that custody risk if you want. morgan stanley just started a spot etf with 0.14 fee. imo avoid any etf that is levered or not spot. the current etfs i think have enough scrutiny it's unthinkable they could rugpull in the crypto sense. |

With the distributed ledger, that shouldn't be possible, but only if people are actually checking ownership against it or it doesn't become the norm to create long credit chains extending through a bunch of derivative accounts
That's supposed to be the game that has kept metal markets artificially depressed for so long, but the distributed ledger provides tools to hypothetically avoid that as long as the information isn't secret and regulators don't collude
This is why it would be a huge help if the federal government takes a serious btc position (aside from obvious price action). It won't be incentivized to look the other way while people manipulate the market and price downwards |
