It started because every fund agreement basically is a free for all for expense reimbursement because LPs don’t care about that issue enough to negotiate. So every fund spends millions a year on lawyers to do basic, repetitive subscription agreements. In house teams can just expense away internal legal too. So it’s just a culture of low work low IQ stuff. And there’s no incentive to reduce costs because a) why and b) revolving doors of counsel from funds to firm to fund to firm. And the actual fund managers don’t do anything about it because a) why and b) these are their buds. And then you have the explosion in private funds generally because of loose accounting rules and the same back scratching stuff between pension fund management teams and the funds.

Anyways, now every idiot lawyer within 10 feet of fund work can get a job doing 25 hours a week of work for 1 million a year. It’s unfortunate because on its face it’s the most useless dreck of legal work on the planet but, like other Bitcoin millionaire idiots, we now all have to spend the rest of our lives pretending they are savants.
