Man killed in shooting near Ypsilanti identified
YPSILANTI TWP., MI - A man killed in a shooting near Ypsilanti on Tuesday has been identified.
Davin Copeland Jr., 23, was fatally shot around midnight near a business complex in the 2000 block of Golfside Road in Ypsilanti Township, confirmed Cmdr. Eugene Rush with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office. Copeland is from Inkster.
Police were initially called to the area for a report of shots fired. When they arrived, they found the man lying on the ground and began rendering aid, police previously said. Copeland was declared dead on scene.
This is the first reported homicide in Washtenaw County this year.
There have not been any arrests as of Wednesday, June 10, Rush said. It is not clear what motivated the shooting.
Copeland’s family did not respond to a request for comment.
