Typical day involves going to 1st Formation and listening to 1st SG push out whatever the tasks of the day are. Most of them don't apply to me because I'm JAG, but I stand in the back of the formation and listen quietly until dismissed.
Next I knock on the Brigade Commander's door to see if there is anything he needs me to handle. This is usually where I give him an update on any pending investigations and when they'll be completed. By investigations, I'm referring specific to any sexual harrassment/assault investigations. Commanders don't give a shit about lost property.
After that, I go to my office and hide so that I don't get tasked to do any dumbass activities by Command Sergeant Major or asked dumb legal questions.
Rinse, wash, repeat until its time for lunch. Come back, and go back to writing legal reviews and answer calls from subordinate Company Commanders, too |

The Army has age cut-offs for when you can jump from Enlisted to Officer or Direct Commission as a JAG/Doctor/Chaplain.
Yes, I feel sorry for the Enlisted because they are treated AND PAID like shit. Being enlisted is not for the "Thinking Man" because you are encouraged to NOT think, just simply do and wait for further instructions.
IF you were to join as an Enlisted, it would have been better if you joined in your 20's, got that free college tuition and either went Warrant Officer or got the fuck out. |

Would a lawyer with 20 years of experience joining at the age limit of 42 still start as an O-2? Would he be treated the same?

Lawyer, but you enlist as an E4: Yes, NCO's could fuck with you anyway they saw fit. I would NOT recommend this, because not only are you OLDER than your superiors, but you're also 10x more educated than your average NCO who got their degree at Walden University Online.
You will hate your life and the bullshit pay you'll make as an E-4. However, the Tricare will be nice tho. |

After graduating from Princeton magna cum laude, Nader then went on to Harvard Law School, and after graduating he wanted to get any potential for military draft out of the way, so he enlisted in the Army Reserve and went through basic training, then became a COOK and spent 6 months active duty before going on inactive reserve status.

You don't start getting any real respect until you become a Captain. That's the rank where you are given "real" shit to do and will be get yelled at when you fuck up, even though you've never done it before.
Ralph Nader's route would not work nowadays. If you sign up as a Cook, you're getting deployed with your unit for a rotation in Kuwait where you might get BTFO by an Iranian drone. |
