They're gdp as a percentage of US gdp peaked in 2022 and China wasn't positioned at all for the AI shift in the economy. I believe that is a big source of the divergent GDP. And Chinese models are running only a few months behind the US but their computational infrastructure is only a 5th of what the US has built. That takes a lot longer to catch up on. Side note... would it surprise you that Chinese ops are funding anti data center protests in the US?
So no, I don't think the future is Chinese. Their population is going off a cliff and while that's true for a lot of nations, the chosen antidote of AI China kind of missed the boat. |

In our lifetime population seems to be a never ending explosion. It was taken us and our institutions a long time to adjust.
But to that point, there is no colonizing mars or some solar system wide species without a constant population impetus. Birth control should be illegal. |
