One is a legacy card that has no foreign transaction fees. Unsurprisingly, I use it abroad. It's also a VISA, so I can use it at Costco

One is my primary card in the US that does charge foreign transaction fees. Unsurprisingly, I use it as my primary card in the US and do not use it abroad. It's not a VISA, so I cannot use it at Costco

I don't pay an annual fee for either

no i did that when i was 21 but all the good ones had fees so i canceled those at that time

here's what i have

citi double cash - primary workhorse

costco visa - 4% cb on gas, 3% on restaurants, and also used at costco obviously. no foreign transaction fees. great card

amex blue cash - first card i opened in college, never use it but there for nostalgia's sake. and also one time i lost my wallet in nepal and amex was the only 180 company that gave me a cash advance immediately to get my bearings.

amex delta - this one should be canceled

capital one quicksilver - used to use this before i got the double cash. also no fx fees, decent card, should probably cancel

crate and barrel visa - i got like 2k worth of rewards from this when i bought a bunch of furniture, should cancel

chase sapphire reserve - fees are a bit too high now, will probably cancel next year

chase ink business - company card

true but also doesn't matter when you get older and have enough revolving limits. just for administrative expediency it's better to have only a few imho

churning seems like such overkill for, what, like a thousand bucks a card at most maybe

thinking about opening a second just for a nice offer since i'm making a big purchase soon and will hit the minimum spend requirement easily but even then my instinct says why sully myself with this prole goy complex just for like $1k

Sapphire preferred is 100k bonus rn on $5000 spend in 3 months.

Ideally you're getting cards where the benefits come out in your favor every year no matter what.

I have something like 10 and like 5 with fees. Obviously I don't run balances but yeah, I use CC benefits/points all the time. About to get 100k points for Sapphire Preferred.

1, which is kind of irresponsible.

If your one card gets declined for whatever reason (technical glitch, actual or suspected fraud, etc.), you can find yourself in tough shape.
