Etymology, sociology and Sega sales collapse into one substance. 3. “My buddy is a quintessential Gen-Xer” Possibly his richest single character study. The buddy is a low-income personal-injury attorney, has failed to beat Margit for seventeen months, has not gotten laid in ten years, and has allegedly lost every console generation by selecting: Genesis → N64 → GameCube → Xbox 360 → Xbox One → Series S. Cowgod adds that the man is tall, “so you’d expect his Income to be higher,” and suspects he calls his Series S a Series X but refuses to let Cowgod inspect it. Career. Saturn was common in elite graduate housing Cowgod claims the Sega Saturn was a fixture among graduate students at Little Ivies, Seven Sisters colleges, Tulane and Washington University in St. Louis, during an era when ordinary adults looked foolish owning consoles. There is no survey. No sales breakdown. No dorm records. He simply remembers an invisible Saturn intelligentsia occupying elite graduate housing across America, quietly playing Panzer Dragoon Saga while vulgar undergraduates bought PlayStations. This is especially good because the alleged community is large enough to prove his theory but obscure enough that no reader can locate a member. 6. Raising a child on Sega 32X Cowgod posts in a parenting forum that he deliberately started his son on the 32X because modern childhood is overcrowded and clearly failing. Working adult Gen-Xers could.” He also warns that they will “bite your head off” if the series is reproached. Nobody had ever constructed a generational class analysis of annualized snowboarding software because nobody had previously identified the problem. 8. Mega Man 7 is more intellectual than Mega Man X The supporting argument is allegedly aesthetics, spatial IQ, tone and musical composition. When pressed, Cowgod produces the immortal comparison: “It’s to like a Vangelis to the X series’ Buckcherry” Grammatically damaged. Musically inexplicable. It is a congressional defense-policy thriller conducted by talking animals, packaged on a full cartridge for $20. 10. Neo Geo children were an unseen hereditary elite Cowgod’s theory is that ordinary people never knew Neo Geo owners because Neo Geo families lived behind gates, had immaculate lawns, collected wine, fenced, rode horses and later ran hedge funds. Gen-X stimulus caused national inflation Cowgod reasons that Gen-X incomes were so catastrophically low that a few thousand dollars of pandemic stimulus represented an enormous increase in their purchasing power, thereby sending the entire economy careening into inflation. Macroeconomic causation by one impoverished birth cohort buying lava lamps and Coolboarders 4. 12. The gaming crisis is considered taboo Cowgod announces “The Absolute State of Gaming,” listing DLC, microtransactions, always-online systems, repeated Western games and Nintendo making the same Zelda twice. When told that posts complaining about modern gaming appear every day, he insists he visits daily and has barely seen any because the subject is taboo. When someone cites Baldur’s Gate 3 as a counterexample, he says it angered developers and will inspire them to make even worse games. Good games are evidence that bad games will become worse.
