The market price of anything reflects it's value at that moment in time. There is no way to prevent people from buying overvalued things because there's no way to prove that somethings "real" value is significantly different from it's market value.
There's no way to prevent people from doing this aside from keeping them out of the market entirely. Which I think we should do in this case, i.e. SEC rules should not have been changed to permit this IPO especially when passive investors will be forced to acquire it. But you can say that without misrepresenting the situation by saying SpaceX is down 50%, which was driven by post-IPO speculation from the market. |
