I'd be hesitant about “genius,” because Peterson's contribution is primarily synthetic rather than original in the strongest intellectual sense. Most of the underlying machinery comes from Jung, Nietzsche, Dostoevsky, Piaget, Eliade, evolutionary psychology, and the broader depth-psychological tradition. Peterson's distinctive achievement was assembling those materials into an unusually compelling contemporary framework and communicating it to a huge audience. That is significant, but it is different from having created theological depth psychology himself.
