both of those songs are actual jokes - zeppelin making fun of james brown and the entire reggae industry, respectively, and showing that they can even play that better than the originators. the crunge in particular has a rhythmic deviance that few other bands could touch.

probably the third best song on Houses of the Holy. That being said it's a great song and would be most other bands' best song.

That's a great performance and speaks to their musicianship that they can do a song like the rain song, at that level, live but I'm partial to the 2014 remastered albums for pure sonic quality. Page did a great job with those.

I listened to the fuck out of them when I was in middle school, then kind of got sick of them and got into more 90s alt rock stuff at the time. But putting on Zeppelin now gives me a renewed appreciation. They really were one of the best rock bands ever, and my personal #1. Just on another level in almost every way, the band members are mystical creatures to me (which was sort of destroyed after hearing a story by a client of mine who met Robert Plant at a steak house bar, apparently he was goofy as fuck IRL).

Their radio stuff is played out and hard to even imagine hearing those songs for the first time. Thing is, that's far from their best stuff. Dig into III or Physical Graffiti and you find nuanced, sophisticated compositions and some incredible musicianship. They were creating new genres and transcending them at the same time.

cr. fool in the rain is comparative garbage that's barely saved by the drum track, which was better when it showed up in rosanna anyway.
