If you look at the activision/blizzard files, they were paying absurd amounts for some games, and if you extrapolate off of that, the financial situation was Grim.

"Gamepass revenue has set Records" - yeah they BOUGHT that revenue and made like 2.875% margin jfc. and it's worse than it looks because they paid a shitloadfor activision. Given what they paid, if Scumbags ever stop buying COD, they'll have to Impair activision just like sony did "bungie." There is no upside here given the price they paid. It either doesn't get Impaired, or it does. Scumbags aren't going to suddenly start loving COD 10x more. they're going to die deaths of despair from opiates imo.

You could walk through the revenue with these people, which was pretty much a known value because we knew the subscriber numbers and subscriber fees, and the budgets for the AAA slop on gamepass could be estimated with a reasonable degree of confidence, and these people just couldn't accept that Gamepass was costing 3x-5x what it was actually bringing in. There was a mantra that if they could just "grow subscribers," everything would work out, but nobody ever explained how the math worked when adding more games to get more subs cost more than the new subs were bringing in. Half of people are suggestible and will Follow and Regurgitate like you wouldn’t believe. A lot are just like “idk who cares.” And then you have the contrarian critical thinking Losers. Things will ebb and flow but you have this large cohort of people who just repeat what they’re told. The predominance of this is higher among libs, Women, and the Chinese.
I used to think advertising was fucking stupid when I was a kid bc I didn’t realize that people would just Obey what they’re told. I mean I never went out and bought anything because of an ad but I didn’t have Ride and 99% of Game commercials were for PS1 games anyway.
Anyway you can’t argue with these people. They’re like water. For some reason people loved gamepass while not buying Xboxes or gamepass. Many of them hate Xbox exclusives and love mediocre Sony exclusives. Idk why. Same people love the idea of gamepass. Ffs we mocked doodikoff when it was $10/mo lol. The “current thing” bifurcated in a weird way that caused people to think Phil Spencer was a good dood while avoiding buying an Xbox no matter what. Not even a series S for dad’s house every other weekend. You’d think that that would be a huge market given the prevalence of divorce in the working class. |
