https://defencesecurityasia.com/en/us-2-billion-burned-iran-f15e-rescue-mission-hc130-helicopter-losses/

By the end of the mission, the United States had lost an F-15E Strike Eagle, at least two HC-130J Combat King II rescue aircraft, an MH-6 Little Bird helicopter (possibly two), one A-10 Thunderbolt II and possibly multiple MQ-9 Reaper drones, while two HH-60 rescue helicopters were damaged and several other aircraft reportedly declared emergencies.

The overall financial cost of the operation remains disputed, but analysts and military observers now believe the total may ultimately exceed US$2 billion once the destroyed aircraft, emergency deployments, precision munitions, support assets and longer-term operational consequences are taken into account.

Even more damaging than the financial cost is the strategic message that emerged from the operation.

For weeks, Washington had insisted that American and Israeli forces had achieved near-total air superiority over Iran during Operation Epic Fury.

The loss of an F-15E deep inside Iranian territory, followed by the destruction of multiple American rescue aircraft stranded in Iran, has instead raised serious questions about the survivability of U.S. airpower in a highly contested environment.

جمال سلطان

@GamalSultan1

Translated from Arabic

What happened in the rescue operation for the American pilots whose plane crashed inside Iranian territory is a military scandal by all measures, a military humiliation for the arrogant mullah regime, and it actually reveals the accuracy of Prince Turki Al-Faisal's description years ago that Iran is a paper tiger, a stuttering media speech, and propagandistic bluster from politically and militarily deranged leaderships psychologically shaken by the shock. Twice in a row in less than a week, an enemy military landing operation takes place on your soil and among your people, right in the face of your forces that have only succeeded in oppressing their poor people. American forces comb through Iranian land, killing any Iranian soldier who approaches the injured pilot's landing zones, scattering the bodies of your officers and soldiers by the dozens over the mountaintops, then securing their pilots, then safely transporting them out of Iran, and the rescue forces returning without a single injury among them—this is called military humiliation. This is a farce, by God.

its actually amazing that they could take down a bunch of US planes, including a fighterjet. i thought Trump said the airspace was definitely clear?

Allegedly there were Iranian factions the US was working with that slowed down the IRGC. The US was also feeding bad Intel into streams being monitored by Chinese and Russian Intel and looped back to the IRGC.

It is pretty crazy Americans landed two airplanes in Iran, mind you, near their most valuable land in the country. Those aircraft fucked up, so they waited and called in three more airplanes. That's almost 8 hours sitting on the ground. They did this with minimal engagement, and with considerable help on the ground.

How do you think that would go? It would probably start from Kuwait and through the Iranian Arab lowlands where the oil is. Probably an air drop into the capital. I bet they roll pretty quickly. Drones and hardened bunkers won't help.
