The pilot of a small plane killed in a “violent” midair collision with a Pennsylvania State Police chopper Wednesday evening has been identified as a veteran ER doctor — as harrowing footage of the crash has been released.
Dr. Paul William Sokoloski was identified as the Cessna 150 pilot killed in the crash at Carlisle airport in Cumberland County, according to the county Coroner’s Office.
Sokoloski spent nearly three decades working in emergency medicine and was previously an assistant professor at the Penn State College of Medicine, according to his LinkedIn profile.
The 67-year-old physician most recently worked at Penn State Health, which called Sokoloski “a valued member of our emergency medicine team,” in a statement obtained by WFMZ.
“The Penn State Health community is deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Paul Sokoloski,” the statement continued.
