cr, except that weekday puzzles also have a theme except fri-sat; it's not just sunday that has a theme.
NOT having a theme makes it harder. that's why fri-sat is much harder than sunday. a theme allowed you to rely on the theme to figure out a lot of the long words. without a theme, you have no way of getting long words.

otoh, plenty of middling iq ppl do well on xwords bc they know obscure boomer pop culture references that boomer constructors like...or they have done enough xwords that they know the usual fill
