Westside L.A. Guy @WestsideLAGuy · May 3, 2025 I interviewed with two dating app companies: Bumble and Grindr. Both jobs were senior level finance roles.
The interviews could not have been more different and underscores why one of them is struggling while the other is thriving.
Bumble: -One of the most ridiculous interviews ever. They asked tons of questions about diversity & inclusion and what I would do to help make Bumble more accepting of women and marginalized people. WTF? When I asked them detailed questions about their financial practices & operating efficiency, they just gave me canned answers. After the interview I had no confidence in that company's ability to turn around its abysmal stock price.
Grindr: -Absolute beast of a company. No BS or nonsense questions. They grilled me on my knowledge of key KPIs such as retention, LTV-CAC, ROAS. We went deep into drivers of revenue growth, operating levers, EBITDA margin expansion. The finance team had a deep understanding of optimizing unit economics & the importance of free cash flow. I walked away extremely impressed with the company. |
