Very few other animals have menopause and we think that humans probably have it because it allows grandmothers to help care for their grandchildren because pregnancy debilitates mothers so much and human babies require so many years of care. But now that many women aren't reproducing at all, menopausal women are a powerfully maladaptive force in human society, waging intrasexual competition against fertile women and trying to prevent them from being able to successfully reproduce themselves
