half of xo called for shutdowns in march 2020, leading to $11 trillion being printed. theres a post about this. most of them later faded into ashamed silence about it or actively lied about their position

it taught me a lot about humanity and so-called "men"

cr this just isn't discussed enough. interest rates were steady and rising. boom covid, instantly back to 0% and printing trillions. the biden inflation and high interest now is the DIRECT result of all that imo.

Two weeks to flatten the curve was reasonable response to a pandemic. It's not hypocritical to support that but oppose money printer go brrrr and multi-year lockdowns.

Regardless, even if you think the two weeks was stupid, that doesn't make those people responsible for covid policies they opposed.

And TBF I consider myself a virus fraudmo because I didn't think COVID was so severe it justified anything beyond the two weeks. Particulaly shit like PPP, which I spent a significant amount of time dealing with professionally, that removed any doubt that we are completely captured by GC fraudlies.

If you were actually only in favor of "wait two weeks" the first time it was done...literally at the beginning of the "pandemic," fine. Anything beyond that is insane beyond belief given the "virus" was basically harmless in any real sense to anyone who wasn't old with major comorbidities.

Yeah I was vehemently opposed to continued lockdowns, quasi-mandatory vax, etc. I spent most of COVID gleefully disobeying them and enjoying uncrowded parks and such.

Lol, that reminds me of one of the funniest examples of this. During the pandemkc I was dating this shitlib who was in a band, and she'd have these weekly virtual band meetings with the other shitlib members.

Onr week when Texas was about to reopen this faggot blowhard was going off about how they were about to commit a literal genocide which would result in the deaths of billions. The next week the Floyd protests started, and they went out to the city nuts to butts crowded and were justifying it as OK because they wore bandanas to mask up.

Just completely incoherent hypocrisy and they were all just so fucking smug about it.

The bort was into the fraud by the end of Feb, give or take. But that was not yet definitive and with all of the bullshit going around at the time, caution through the end of March 2020 was reasonable.

Failure to immediately call total flaem on the largest fraud in modern history is not a moral failure. Also, prepperthreading was fun.

Anyone supporting lockdowns into April and beyond was indeed a fool.

One of the real "lmao wtf" moments was when it was revealed that a lot of the "full hospital" scenes being shown on TV were either very old or stock footage.

I remember reading Z Man (God rest his soul) and he legitimately drove around to a bunch of hospitals and they were all basically empty.

Yeah, that would have been a better policy. I just don't blame people for having taken a few weeks to confirm that single data point with their own observations and develop enough confidence to spit in the face of the entire globo-poli-media behemoth.

I am a very skeptical person and my first instinct is always to distrust the government and media. I've said a lot of things in public over the years that pissed people off it been deemed rude and uncouth. I did not feel comfortable calling out the fraud to normies until the second half of March and I won't hold poasters to a higher standard.

I think many people ITT and on XO would agree that "two weeks" would have only been effective if done around mid-February 2020 at the absolute latest. Literally before the "virus" had any ability to spread beyond the very first cases.

Anything after that was a jerkoff to look like the government was "doing something."

This type of crankery is far more responsible for the slippery slope of of COVID policies than people who supported a limited initial response. It made for a convenient caricature for supporters of restrictions to paint everyone who opposed them as a crank.

i can keep the argument on a "non-crankish" level - that the shutdowns were unwarranted and that the experimental mRNA vaccines were ultra dangerous and people should not have been pressured into them - but that's not what i believe the weight of the evidence shows (although i'm willing to keep it on that boring level when necessary).

I'm not trying to police what you poast on xoxo (we all know your POV anyway) or even single you out for contributing to the crank zeitgeist (I have no idea how vocal you were IRL).

I'm just pointing out that if we're going to parse out blame for who contributed to the slippery slope of COVID policies, the cranks should accept some blame too. When people see one side is calling it a fake virus invented by the Rothschilds that reduces the credibility the anti-lockdownmos.

I'm sure you believe what you say and think its virtuous to say unpopular things despite the consequences. And I agree. But there are consequences, which includes giving lockdown supporters a strawman to dismiss any all opposed to lockdowns as conspiracy cranks.

"When people see one side is calling it a fake virus invented by the Rothschilds that reduces the credibility the anti-lockdownmos." yes, this is a rhetorical point - "what do you have to say to influence retarded normies and not turn them off?" - and i don't entirely disagree with you here. but convincing normies was and has never been my intent

i'm pretty quiet and friendly irl, even if very intense looking, although introverted because conversation taxes me. i told people i was against lockdowns and COVID vaccines but didn't try pushing it on people except close family/friends on the latter, but not aggressively. my outlet for my actual thoughts is Online, not irl, otherwise i would be a social pariah

All very reasonable.

I'm just sensitive to being accused (not saying you're doing this) of supporting a limited initial response as tantamount to supporting all of it. Hardline radicals contributed too, just like how insane bluehaired shitlibs wind up hurting their own cause.

I was a very vocal anti-lockdown, anti-PPPmo. I also flagrantly violated lockdown nonsense and endured plenty of angry shitlibs demanding I mask up. That's about the most I could've done on an individual level.

I will say I would be much more hesitant to support reasonable response in the future after experiencing the hysteria it led to, and would oppose the two weeks then if I knew what I know now.

i understand, i'm not accusing you of going full tilt. but my argument is that "two weeks to stop the spread" is the initial frame buy-in, it's the crack in the door that lets the wolf into the hen-house for what followed. its a tricky thing, because oftentimes a kneejerk rejection of globohomo propaganda *also* feeds into their dialectics, so it requires nuance and discernment

I agree. But two weeks was reasonable, I know several doctors who worked in hospitals during the initial outbreak and they were triaging people like medics in a war. I knew then that there's always a risk giving the government powers like that, however the risk of increased deaths and hospitals remaining overrun outweighed that for me. Particularly because I didn't think if lockdowns were extended for YEARS people would be so fucking compliant.

It was a black swan event. We've never experienced multi-year lockdowns before that. I regret underestimating the risk. The whole things reminds me of why I oppose every gun regulation. Many are reasonable, but they are always a camel's nose leading to more because libs want to ban them completely. So you have to oppose them all. I didn't think something that should be non-political like a pandemic response would be utilized to the extent they did. Now I do!

Well that demonstrates my point that the risk of them extending two weeks into multiple years seemed farfetched. We can debate whether the two weeks was justified forever but I think you'd agree that if it was *JUST* two weeks it might have been an overreaction but a pretty inconsequential one. The bigger issue is what it led to.

3. what should we do about it?

on all three Fauci commandeered the government response and willfully answered the questions falsely.

It all makes sense when you realize that Fauci and the NIH were funding extremely dangerous gain of function virus development through the lab in Wuhan and THEY DIDNT KNOW WHAT GOT OUT. They had to shut everything down because for all they knew it could have been modified avian flu with a 50% mortality rate. By the time they figured out just how lucky they got and it was just a bad cold, they were in deep and had to double down.

This is exactly right. Fauci knew that it could be rilly bad and, if you recall, there were videos of chinamen falling "dead" on the street and reports from Italy of whole apartment buildings being decimated. People in government who knew about the research and the lab leak feared the worse.

there was data pretty quick that it wasn't that bad. that cruise ship in japan that was full of 65+ year olds, everyone got it and like 2% died. nbd. and that was like end of february, early march.

cr.

a Stanford schoalar, John Ioannidis, looked at early clusters and basically nailed the final death rate. he got crucified for being correct.

when the WHO was talking 3%, Trump said he suspected the final rate would be much much lower -- and Trump got crucified for it.

there's an interesting parallel with Fauci's work on AIDS where he labored to make it seem like a disease where heteros were at huge risk (when the risk was for needle users and gay men). with COVID, Fauci tried to hide the fact that COVID was a big threat only to the elderly and people who were immuno-compromised.

Yeah, the lockdowns were high on the list of the worst things Biden did.

People have incredibly shitty memories about what the "lockdowns" were.

IIRC, the Biden Administration had been very strict for about two weeks at the very start where they required everyone to stay in their houses, but at least by the summer of 2020 people were free to go outside and engage in whatever faggy thing-doing they wanted.

seven states never had lockdowns. three states ended their lockdowns in late April. but even when lockdowns ended, many states had very restrictive rules for a long time. and it was at the very end of April that The Atlantic accused Georgia of "human sacrifice" for ending its lockdowns.

so it's not really accurate to suggest that all the restrictions were gone by summer. quite the contrary.

Gavin Newsom's infamous dinner at the French Laundry was in November 2020.

It was always at a state level. A number of states were locked down for 0 days. Others were locked down for an absurdly long period of time. In NJ they shut down parks and kept draconian measures in place for months. Florida was 2 weeks and then 100% back open.

it's interesting. his comment, being so inaccurate, made me poke around about who kept the longest, dumbest restrictions. it was Dem states, to no one's surprise: CA, NM, IL, VA, etc.

the states that had had bans and lifted them quickly were, not surprisingly, the GOP politicians in Texas, Florida, and Georgia.

Here's what almost everyone forgets - the lockdowns made complete sense, and Trump did an amazing job.

We were projected to have over-run hospitals, ventilator shortages, no PPE, etc.

The country locked down, Trump turned the Javits center in a hospital, brought in huge ships to offer hospital beds, found 10x more ventilators than anyone every thought possible.

And then - COVID never came - and libs just got this stupid idea that we could lock down indefinitely - even though the only soluiton we ever had was for everyone just fucking get COVID until it got so week it was NBD - which is what happened with omicron.

Because of that insane policy people forget the original plan and the fact that Trump did actually rise to the occasion - the occassion just never really came (plus ventilators actually just killed people whoops).
