imo there's nothing worse than forced quippy dialogue that tries hard to make you laugh but doesn't land. a lot of the best comedy arises incidentally from even the grimmest scenarios.

The worst was the "Fin" character from The Force Awakens. Star Wars up to that point had been deathly serious in every scene. Even the Ewok bullshit. But suddenly you have a this stormtrooper guy who thinks it's all hilarious to be in some space war. The critics loved this shit and said it was refreshing but right off the bat it didn't feel like Star Wars. They wrote him almost entirely out of the rest of the series. What an unforced [sic] miscue.
